Bournemouth welcome defending Premier League champions Manchester City to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with both teams currently sitting on four points. Bournemouth, like City, have opened their 2019/20 campaign with a draw and a win. They drew 1-1 at home with Sheffield United on the opening day of the season before winning 2-1 away at Aston Villa last weekend.
For City, the season began with an emphatic 5-0 win away at West Ham United. Pep Guardiola’s team followed that victory up with a 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur, though, and they will want to get back to winning ways quickly, especially given the strong fashion in which Liverpool have started the season.
Bournemouth vs Manchester City Prediction: Cherries 0-2 City
Despite the two teams having similar records after two games of the season we expect City to dominate this contest. Our prediction is for Guardiola’s team to win the game 2-0, but we suspect that the final goals tally could be a lot higher than that. Bournemouth last season had a tendency to crumble against strong sides on occasion, and Eddie Howe will hope that the work he did in preseason has ironed out that problem. His team’s resolve is going to be tested on Sunday, though, especially in defence. It could be a long afternoon for the Cherries this weekend.
Our recommended tip: City 2-0
Our featured tip for this game comes from Coral, who are offering odds of 6/1 on our prediction of a 2-0 victory for City. The away side have been made strong favourites for this game, so it is hard to find good value on markets that back City for victory. In such circumstances, punters can often find good value in the correct score markets. Odds of 6/1 provide you with some decent value. We think that Bournemouth may have a hard time on Saturday keeping the score down to just 2-0.
History is not on Bournemouth’s side when it comes to this fixture. There have been eight previous Premier League meetings between these teams and City have won all eight. Those eight games have been evenly divided between home and away victories for City.
Last season, City faced Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium in December, and won the game 3-1, thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan. In the return fixture at the Vitality Stadium in March, matters were tighter. City still won the game, though. The final score was 1-0, with the goal coming from Riyad Mahrez.

Players to watch: Ryan Fraser & Raheem Sterling
Scottish international winger Ryan Fraser remains one of Bournemouth’s most potent attacking threats, and he has progressed and developed hugely during his time in the Premier League with the Cherries. Although the Scot is yet to score a goal for the Cherries this season in the league, he has contributed 13 crosses at an accuracy rate of 31%. He has also played one accurate long ball in his two games so far this season.
England international forward Raheem Sterling is making the early season pace when it comes to scoring goals for City. The 24-year-old has blasted four goals in his two Premier League games so far, taking his overall tally for his career to 70 Premier League goals in 228 appearances. Although he has come in for fierce criticism at various times in his career, Sterling continues to answer those critics in the best way possible – by scoring goals.
