Burnley welcome Cardiff City to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon, with Sean Dyche’s Clarets going in search of their third consecutive Premier League victory. Cardiff are in real trouble now when it comes to the Premier League relegation battle. The Bluebirds have lost their last two league games, against Chelsea and Manchester City, and have won only one of their last six league games. That victory came at home to West Ham United on March 9, when they won 2-0. Defeat this weekend could leave the Bluebirds eight points adrift of Premier League safety, a deficit which would be extremely difficult to overcome.
On a personal level, Dyche has never lost to his Cardiff opposite number, Neil Warnock, having won four and drawn five of his personal battles with the current Bluebirds gaffer.
Burnley vs Cardiff City Prediction: Clarets 2-0 Bluebirds
Our prediction for this game is that the home side will emerge as convincing winners, with 2-0 looking a likely scoreline to us. Cardiff have been sinking for a while now, despite the recent victory over West Ham assuaging some worries, and they look like a doomed side now. Key man Sol Bamba is out for the rest of the season, and City will miss his talismanic presence at the heart of the defence, and in the opposition penalty area at set-pieces. Burnley’s dual strikeforce of Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes will be too strong for a City team without Bamba.
Our recommended tip: Burnley 2-0
Our featured tip for this Premier League clash comes from Paddy Power. The Irish bookie is offering odds of 13/2 on our prediction of a 2-0 home win turning out to be accurate. We think those odds offer pretty good value for punters, given that the odds on the 1X2 market on Burnley to win are just 4/5. More value can therefore be found by betting on the final scoreline. Burnley have a pretty potent strike partnership up front, while Cardiff find scoring goals very difficult this season. A 2-0 home win looks like a good bet to us.
These two sides have played each other just once in the Premier League. That game came earlier this season at the Cardiff City Stadium, and ended in a 2-1 win for Burnley. Johann Gudmundsson opened the scoring for the Clarets after 51 minutes, before Josh Murphy equalised for City on the hour mark. Sam Vokes struck in the 70th minute to seal the victory for the Clarets.
In total, the two sides have met 84 times in all competitions in history. Out of those games, both teams have won 29, and there have been 26 draws.

Players to watch: Ashley Barnes & Victor Camarasa
Clarets striker Ashley Barnes has scored 10 Premier League goals this season, more than any other player at the club. If Barnes scores one more he will have equalled the record set for Premier League goals in a season at Burnley, which was set by Danny Ings, who scored 11 in 2014/15. In his 31 league appearances in 2018/19, Barnes has also provided two assists and created five big chances for his team mates.
Cardiff’s Victor Camarasa has managed to score two goals in his last three games in the Premier League. That is as many as he managed in his previous 21 games in England’s top tier. One of those goals came in the victory over West Ham that gave the Bluebirds some hope last month. That hope has been almost extinguished by two consecutive Premier League defeats, so this weekend would be a good time for another Camarasa goal.
