Burnley will be hoping to make it three wins in a row when they host Huddersfield Town at Turf Moor on Saturday, with the visitors yet to pick up a victory so far this season. Sean Dyche’s men endured a horrific start to the season but a 4-0 win over Bournemouth was followed up by a heard-earned success at Cardiff, which moved the Clarets out of the relegation zone. Despite that, they haven’t convinced with their performances but they will still be confident against the Terriers.
That’s because David Wagner’s men are seriously struggling and they look as though they will be in a massive uphill battle to survive this season. Huddersfield are not making enough chances and therefore they’ve not scored enough goals. The only positive they can take is that they improved a lot last week against Tottenham and they will see this as a chance of three points given Burnley’s performances.
Burnley vs Huddersfield Prediction: Burnley 1-0 Huddersfield
If we’re honest, this is going to be a very poor game for the neutral between two sides that lack real star quality in the Premier League. Burnley are well organised, hard to beat and have tended to win most of their games by the odd goal. With Huddersfield sure to set up for a point, this means we are expecting a very tight game and it could be decided by a set-piece or an individual error. Given Huddersfield’s form, particularly away from home, then the hosts will understandably be favourites and could edge this one.
Our recommended tip: Under 2.5 goals
As mentioned, we aren’t expecting a high-quality open affair, instead this will be tight and chances should be hard to come by. Therefore, under 2.5 goals should be a strong bet and has a chance. The hosts have improved defensively in recent weeks, with Joe Hart performing well. With Huddersfield’s lack of ability in the final third, they are going to struggle to create chances, whilst Burnley are not usually prolific themselves – this won’t be a classic.
Previous matches
This will be the 74th meeting between the sides and it’s one that Burnley have had the better of over the years, winning 33 of the previous games compared to the Terriers 27. On the whole, this has been a fixture that has predominantly been played in the second tier, with the only Premier League games coming last season. Both of those games finished goalless!

Players to watch: Matej Vydra & Aaron Mooy
Given the type of game we are expecting, it could be a moment of magic that decides the game and Vydra is the one for Burnley who has that something different in the final third. The Czech international has good technique, clever movement and that intelligence could disrupt the Huddersfield defence. They are sure to be able to deal with the physicality of Sam Vokes and Chris Wood but Vydra has something different that could decide the game.
For the visitors, Australian Mooy is their standout player and there is so much reliance on him if they are to improve. He has the ability to pull the strings in the midfield with his vision and passing range and needs to have a good game. It’s easy to blame the forwards for the lack of goals but the reality is the whole team are struggling to keep the ball well and create chances. Mooy is the man who will change that if he finds his best form.
