Following a brief break during the international fixtures, the Premier League is back with vengeance this weekend with potential title challengers Chelsea hosting newly promoted Cardiff City. Chelsea are one of few teams to maintain their perfect record so far in the league, winning all four of their opening matches, whereas Cardiff are yet to earn their first victory. Despite this, Cardiff have demonstrated improvements, having pushed Arsenal all the way during their tightly contested 2-3 defeat to the Gunners. This is an interesting clash of two teams on opposite sides of the spectrum, but any result is possible due to the unpredictability of the Premier League.
Chelsea vs Cardiff City Prediction: Chelsea 3–1 Cardiff City
Considering Chelsea’s recent form, Cardiff’s disappointing start to the season, and the clear difference in quality between the both sides, it is tough to see anything but a comfortable Chelsea victory. The Bluebirds may well score a goal for themselves and will be compact defensively throughout the first half, but eventually, Chelsea’s quality in both defence and especially attack will surely reign supreme. Do not be surprised if Chelsea are held to a tight first half, perhaps 1-0, 1-1 or even 0-0, due to the defensive grit of Warnock’s men.
Our recommended tip: BTTS – Yes
Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City struggled to find their feet – and the back of the net – at the beginning of their campaign in the Premier League this season, but seemed to have improved in attack during their previous match against Arsenal where they put two in against the Gunners. If City can score two goals against Arsenal, what is stopping them scoring against Chelsea? Chelsea have conceded in two of their opening four matches, so nothing suggests that their defence is unbreakable. At the very decent odds of 5/4 with Betway, why not consider it?
These two sides have met just twice in the Premier League during the 2013-14 season. Chelsea won comfortably at Stamford Bridge, with Hazard (x2), Eto’o, and Oscar all finding the net in their 4-1 victory. Hype is beginning to surround this Chelsea side, so Blues fans will expect a similar result this weekend. Chelsea unsurprisingly won the return fixture at the Cardiff City Stadium as well, but that time in a less dominant manner (2-1). Some time has passed since then, but it is likely that Chelsea will be out to put on another dominant home performance against the Bluebirds.

Players to watch: Marcos Alonso & Danny Ward
Cardiff City’s Danny Ward has impressed recently, scoring his first Premier League goal during his side’s thriller against Chelsea’s rivals, Arsenal. Scoring his first goal will have given the number nine the confidence he needs to thrive as part of the side, and he will now be out to improve upon that with a few more goals this season. He is sure to be a Bluebirds’ fan favourite up top.
Marcos Alonso, the slick Spanish defender who scores like a striker. Alonso has scored 15 times since joining the Blues from Fiorentina back in 2016, which just happens to tally as the most by any defender in the Premier League over the last two years. His set-piece expertise offer his side a huge advantage, where he often picks out a sensational strike from well outside the box. His attacking prowess is also backed up by good, solid defending, as any defender would hope. His career has sky-rocketed recently and is unlikely to decline anytime soon.
