Chelsea vs Everton – Betting Tips & Predictions – 11-11

Last updated & checked: 10/08/2021

A recently improved Everton face a significant test of their capabilities on this trip to London, with Chelsea unbeaten through the first eleven league games of the season. Indeed, the Blues haven’t lost in 16 games in all competitions, and they’ve rediscovered their scoring touch under Maurizio Sarri’s management, with 27 goals in the league so far. A challenge, then, for the Toffee’s often creaky defence.

Under Mauro Silva, the visitors have begun to play an attacking style that is certainly pleasing on the eye, and they go for the win where previous incarnations would have been happy with the draw. It’s hard not to feel, however, that Silva, his players and every fan who makes the trip South this afternoon would be delighted with a point from this game, and to avoid the defeat that met their last away trip, a fortnight ago at Manchester United.

Chelsea vs Everton Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Everton

Chelsea come into this game with an almost entirely clean bill of health injury-wise, with Cesc Fabregas the only player unavailable to them. It’s questionable whether he’s play if he were fit, such are the club’s relative midfield riches, and that means that Willian, Eden Hazard and whoever plays in between them will have solid service for the duration of the game. Even without a recognised high-scoring striker, the Blues have strong potential going forward, and against an Everton side unlikely to “park the bus”, that could lead to a high-scoring win. The visitors have attacking quality of their own, but … well, less than Chelsea.

Our recommended tip: Chelsea win both halves

Perhaps because their system depends on intricate interplay, Chelsea have a tendency to start slowly, building into momentum as the game goes on. Against Crystal Palace last week, they could have gone behind before breaking the deadlock shortly before half time. They were then much better in the second half, and this game could well follow a similar pattern, particularly coming just three days after a sapping trip to Belarus where BATE were beaten 1-0. With 888sport offering a generous 9/4 (3.25) on the hosts winning first and second halves, there’s a strong incentive to back exactly that outcome.

Previous matches

Although Chelsea spent much of last season looking like they were trying to get Antonio Conte sacked (successfully, as it turned out), their many weaknesses were as nothing compared with Ronald Koeman’s experiment with playing all of his side’s Number Tens at the same time. The Toffees’ visit to Stamford Bridge, early in the season, ended in a 2-0 defeat, Fabregas and Alvaro Morata getting on the scoresheet.

More recently, the sides met last 27th of December at Goodison Park. If we give you “unmotivated Chelsea side” and “Everton managed by Sam Allardyce”, you can probably guess the rest. The game ended 0-0; one only hopes nobody was gifted tickets as a Christmas present, as the match bordered on torture to watch.

Players to watch: N’Golo Kante & Seamus Coleman

Kante’s deep-lying midfield performances for Leicester won him the Premier League, and a move to Chelsea, where he won the league again and a (belated, some felt) Football Writers’ Player of the Year award. Sarri’s appointment on the Kings’ Road saw him bring Jorginho, who plays in that deep position, and the Italian made the curious choice to unshackle Kante to play further forward. It turns out the French international is also very good at that, and he’s been a mainstay of Chelsea’s good form thus far.

Coleman was developing into one of the Premier League’s best right-backs, and the one top-class player in Ireland’s squad, before his leg was broken in two places while on international duty. After nine months out he returned to finish last season, and this campaign he’s been one of Everton’s leading lights. This afternoon, he’ll be tasked with keeping an eye on Eden Hazard – a thankless job, no doubt, but one we can expect Coleman to approach in his usual full-blooded way.
