Chelsea, currently down in ninth place in the Premier League table, welcome top-placed Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The home side are looking for their first home win under the management of Frank Lampard. Mason Mount, Toni Rudiger, N’Golo Kante and Emerson are all rated as doubtful for the home side, though, as they are carrying injuries.
Liverpool will head into the game feeling confident, as they have lost only once in their last 44 Premier League matches, and are unbeaten in their last 22 league matches, an outstanding record that highlights the quality of Jurgen Klopp’s team. They are also under pressure to respond after Manchester City made a statement on Saturday by beating Watford 8-0.
Chelsea vs Liverpool Prediction: Blues 1-2 Reds
Our prediction for this game is that Liverpool will prevail in a tight and testing game, winning 2-1 in the end. Chelsea were beaten 1-0 by Spanish outfit Valencia in the Champions League in midweek, and we suspect that that defeat may have had a slightly depressing effect on Lampard’s squad. But Klopp’s Reds were beaten themselves in midweek away in Italy, at Napoli in the Champions League. Their domestic form has been so good, however, that it is hard to see Liverpool stuttering too much in west London on Sunday. Chelsea may take the lead, but the Reds will prevail in the end.
Our recommended tip: Liverpool from behind
Our featured tip for this game comes from Coral, who are offering tempting odds of 8/1 on Liverpool winning the game by coming from behind. This bet fits with our prediction of how the game will go, as we suspect that Chelsea may well take an early lead. The Reds have too much attacking power to be behind for too long, though, and we think that they will win the game pretty comfortably in the end, especially given Chelsea’s home form in the league so far this season. Odds of 8/1 also offer really good value to punters.
Previous matches
These two sides have played each other on 54 previous occasions in the Premier League, with Liverpool winning 20 of those games. Chelsea have also won 20 games, and there have been 14 draws. Liverpool have beaten Chelsea six times in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea have won 14 times at home to the Reds.
Last season, the teams met twice in the Premier League. The first encounter was at Stamford Bridge in September 2018, and ended in a 1-1 draw. The second game came at Anfield in April, with the Reds coming out 2-0 victors.

Players to watch: Tammy Abraham & Mohamed Salah
Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has scored at least two goals in his last three Premier League appearances, making him a real danger man for the Blues. The only player to have netted more than two goals in four games was Liverpool striker Luis Suarez in 2013. Abraham has seven league goals to his credit already this season in just five Premier League appearances. Eight of his 15 shots on goal have been on target.
Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah has begun the 2019/20 season in as sharp form as ever, netting four times in the Premier League already. He has also weighed in with two assists and has created two big chances for his team mates too. He has hit 16 shots on goal, seven of which have been on target. He has missed three big chances and struck the woodwork with shots on one occasion.
