Crystal Palace vs Manchester City – Betting Tips & Predictions – 14-04

Last updated & checked: 10/08/2021

Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace could play a significant role in the Premier League title race this weekend, when they welcome Manchester City to Selhurst Park. City are locked in a tight title battle with Liverpool, who currently sit two points ahead of them at the top of the league. City do have a game in hand, though.

Palace could become just the second club to achieve a Premier League double over a Manchester City side managed by Pep Guardiola, with the Eagles having won 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium earlier this season. Only Chelsea in 2016/17 have managed this feat.
City are in awesome form, though, having secured their place in the FA Cup final last weekend. They have won their last eight Premier League games, scoring 20 goals and conceding just two during that run.

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City Prediction: Palace 1-1 City

Our prediction for this game is that Palace will hold City to a 1-1 draw, with Luka Milivojevic probably scoring from the penalty spot for the home side. While City are in awesome form right now, and are attempting to win an unprecedented quadruple of trophies, Palace are a very a well-coached and motivated side who are well capable of frustrating Guardiola’s superstars. City found it hard work at Wembley last weekend against Brighton & Hove Albion, and the pressure is mounting on them as the business end of the season draws near.

Our recommended tip: Draw, both score

Our featured tip for this game comes from Ladbrokes, who are offering odds of 11/2 on the game ending in a draw with both teams scoring. We think that this is a good bet as the odds offer reasonable value and it matches our prediction for the game’s result. We think that Palace will frustrate City and hold them to a draw. We also suspect that both teams will find the net at some stage during the 90 minutes on Sunday afternoon. To add value to the odds, bet on Luka Milivojevic to score a penalty too.

Previous matches

These two sides have met 17 times in the Premier League. Just four of those games have been draws, with City winning 10 times and Palace three. Two of Palace’s three victories have come at Selhurst Park, with City winning four times at the Eagles’ home ground.
Earlier this season, the two sides met at the Etihad Stadium on December 22. Palace achieved a massive shock that day, beating the reigning Premier League champions 3-2. Jeffrey Schlupp and Andros Townsend scored first-half goals for Palace that day, with Luka Milivojevic adding a second-half penalty.

Players to watch: Luka Milivojevic & Leroy Sane

This is the kind of game which is made for Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic. The steely Serb will enjoy the midfield contest against City’s superstars, and will be a key figure if the home side are to frustrate Guardiola’s team. He is also a man to keep an eye on if Palace are awarded a penalty, though. The Serbian international has netted 11 times from the penalty spot this season. City will need to watch their tackles.

German winger Leroy Sane is Citys top assist provider in the Premier League this season. He has weighed in with nine assists in his 26 Premier League games in 2018/19, and has also scored nine goals of his own. Seven of those goals have come with his left foot, highlighting the key issue for Palace’s defenders. Of his 49 attempts on goal, 20 have been on target. He has missed five big chances.
