Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur – Betting Tips & Predictions – 27/01

Last updated & checked: 10/08/2021

Tottenham Hotspur face action in another cup competition this weekend, as they travel across London to take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth round at Selhurst Park on Sunday. Spurs were knocked out of the League Cup at the semi-final stage by Chelsea in midweek, losing on penalties after the tie ended in a 2-2 draw on aggregate after the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Roy Hodgson’s Palace team will be keen for a win in this game, losing 4- at home to Liverpool in the Premier League last week. Although they pushed the Reds hard, that was Palace’s second league defeat in a row, and a return to winning ways would be nice this weekend. Reports in the press continue to link star player Wilfred Zaha with a move in the summer, with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund apparently the latest club to express an interest.

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction: Palace 1-0 Spurs

This is a hard game to predict. It is tricky to assess what effects going through extra time and then losing on penalties against Chelsea on Thursday night will have had on the Spurs players. There is sure to be some kind of a mental hangover, even if the physical recovery can be handled by the club’s conditioning and medical staff. Palace might just scent some blood in the water, especially as they are at home in front of their passionate fans. Our prediction is that Palace will nick this game 1-0, possibly with a late goal.

Our recommended tip: Palace 1-0

Our featured tip for this game comes from Betway, who are offering a price of 7/1 on Palace winning 1-0. Those odds look pretty tempting, and offer you plenty of good value if you keep your nerve. We suspect that Spurs’ energy will have been sapped by midweek defeat at Chelsea, and that Palace will have a slight edge over them at Selhurst Park. The bookies clearly think that the game is going to be close, as the odds of 7/1 are the same for a 1-0 victory for Spurs.

Previous matches

Palace’s last victory over Spurs came in February 2016, in the fifth round of the FA Cup, when they won 1-0 at White Hart Lane. Martin Kelly scored the only goal of the game that day, netting after 45 minutes. Since then, the Eagles have not beaten Spurs in five encounters, all of which have been in the Premier League. The most recent of those meetings was earlier this season. The two sides met in a league match at Selhurst Park in November. Spurs won the match 1-0, with Juan Foyth scoring the game’s only goal in the 66th minute.

Players to watch: Andros Townsend & Fernando Llorente

Palace wide midfielder Andros Townsend is a graduate of the Tottenham academy, and he is sure to want to impress against his former club at the weekend. The England international has enjoyed a good season in 2018/19, having netted six goals in 26 games in all competitions. One of those goals came last week against Liverpool. If Palace are to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup Andros will need to be at his best.
The pressure will be on Spurs striker Fernando Llorente again this weekend, as the Spaniard leads the Tottenham attack again, in the absence of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son. Spurs’ attack has been further blunted by injury to Dele Alli, so Llorente will be under further pressure now. The Spaniard scored an own goal last week against Fulham, but did manage to score at the right end against Chelsea in midweek.
