Czech Republic vs England – Betting Tips & Predictions – 11/10

Last updated & checked: 10/08/2021

This might be viewed by some as an easy game for England considering their 5-0 hammering of the Czech Republic in their previous qualifier encounter. And while it is true that England have dominated a pot that has failed to see any serious challenges to their place at the very top, is is worth pointing out that the Czech Republic have much better form at home.

In fact, they won both of their qualifying games when played on their own turf, defeating Montenegro 3-0 and Bulgaria 2-1. Meanwhile, they’ve only won a single game away, besting Montenegro by the same score. Their other loss so far in the qualifiers also came in an away game against Kosovo. That is something for Czech fans to hold onto. However, no one has managed to knock England off this particular pedestal yet, and any team will have a terribly hard time doing so.

Czech Republic vs England Prediction: Czech Republic 1-3 England

Although we think England will have a much tougher game here, we just haven’t seen enough from the Czech team to think they are likely to come away with the upset. They are better at home and England aren’t a perfect team, but the inconsistencies of the home side make it hard for us to see them winning as anything other than an unlikely outcome. Not only that but the firepower of the England team – they’ve scored a minimum of four goals every match so far in the qualifiers – means we think the margin will be considerable. With that in mind, our scoreline prediction is 3-1 to England.

Our recommended tip: Both teams score

It appears the bookmakers don’t agree with us in terms of our scoreline, largely because they favour England walking away with a clean sheet. We’re not so sure. Czech Republic have only failed to score in one game during the qualifiers, although that was against England. We think that the home advantage won’t be enough to get them the win here but we do think they will be able to fire back at least one goal of their own, especially if we see a similar drop-off in performance by England as we saw against Kosovo. You’ll find low-risk 1/1 odds on both teams to score at BetFred.

Previous matches

We have, of course, talked at length about the most recent meeting between the Czech Republic and England. In all honesty, it would be near impossible to contextualise this match without it. And there’s little doubt that dominating 5-0 result will weigh heavily on the minds of the home team. It’s also by far the most relevant example, with these teams having only faced off twice before. The best result for the Czech Republic came in 2008 in a 2-2 international friendly, as they lost the previous encounter in 1998 by 2-0. As it stands, England are undefeated in this fixture.

Players to watch: Patrik Schick & Raheem Sterling

There are two major factors which could make this game turn out very differently than last time around in our opinion. One is the homefield advantage and the other is England’s defensive weaknesses. There’s no better player on the Czech team to take advantage of these factors than RB Leipzig striker Patrik Schick. He has been on great form at home, scoring four times, and could be the ideal player to hone in on defensive mistakes.

He might be the obvious choice considering it was his hat-trick that pushed England to that incredible 5-0 victory. That memory will no doubt have the Czech Republic side keeping a very close eye on Raheem Sterling. But he’s not just here because of one performance. Sterling has been consistently great in these qualifiers and is an absolute menace to every defence he has come across. Whether he scores or not, Sterling is a difference maker.
