Everton vs Chelsea – Betting Tips & Predictions – 17-03

Last updated & checked: 10/08/2021

Chelsea travel to Goodison Park this Sunday to face Everton, with Maurizio Sarri’s team looking to build on their 5-0 midweek Europa League win at Dynamo Kiev. Chelsea have lost three of their last four away games in the Premier League, though, conceding 12 goals in those three defeats, so Everton will feel confident.
What might dent that confidence, though, is the Toffee’s own home form, which has been poor. The Merseyside outfit has not won at home in seven Premier League games, a run which stretches back over two months. Marco Silva’s team have also won just one of their last six league games, having lost four and drawn one during that run.

Everton vs Chelsea Prediction: Toffees 1-2 Blues

Our prediction for this game is that the away side will win a narrow game 2-1. Everton’s home form has been pretty poor in recent weeks, and they have not managed to win at Goodison Park since January. Chelsea went to Kiev in midweek and won 5-0, a sign that they do not have a problem with playing away from home at the moment. They have also won two and drawn one of their last three Premier League games, a sign that they are feeling confident. Everton may well take the lead, but Chelsea will prevail in the end.

Our recommended tip: Chelsea, both score

Our featured tip for this game comes from Paddy Power, who are offering odds of 11/4 on Chelsea to win and both teams to score. We think that this bet offers good value in terms of the odds, especially given Everton’s home form recently. Chelsea have conceded in their last two Premier League games, despite winning one and drawing one of those matches, so we suspect that Everton will score. The bet also gives you a little bit of flexibility when it comes to the precise final scoreline.

Previous matches

The last two Premier League meetings between the teams have ended 0-0. Everton have also failed to score in their last five league games against Chelsea. The last time they went six games without scoring against an opponent in the league was back in the 1970s, when they failed in seven games against Southampton. Everton have won just one game of the last 10 Premier League meetings between the teams.
Earlier this season, the teams met at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, a game which ended ia goalless draw. Last season’s meeting at Goodison Park also ended 0-0.

Players to watch: Richarlison & Eden Hazard

If Everton want to improve their home record they need Brazilian striker Richarlison to maintain his scoring record this season. The 21-year-old has found the net 11 times in 28 Premier League games in 2018/19, and has also provided one assist for his team-mates. Seven of his goals have come with his right foot, three with his left and one with his head. He has hit 60 shots this season, 23 of which have been on target.

Everton will need to keep a close eye on Eden Hazard this weekend. The Belgian has been directly involved in 24 of Chelsea’s 50 Premier League goals this season, having provided 13 goals and 11 assists. That is the highest ratio in the Premier League. Hazard has never scored at Goodison Park, though. He has played six games at Everton’s ground without scoring, more than any other Premier League venue apart from Selhurst Park.
