One of these teams is just about meeting their potential, while the other is crashing and burning even in these early stages of the Premier League. Does either have it in them to go above and beyond the standard already set this season?
Everton may have only got one win so far in the Premier League, but in holding off the Wolves, Bournemouth and Huddersfield to draws, they’ve proven themselves to be incredibly tough to beat if nothing else.
West Ham United, on the other hand, have had an absolute disaster of a season, thus far losing all four games. If fans want some hope to cling to, they were tough teams and they often put up a fight. Regardless though, to start off the Premier League with four consecutive losses is a disaster, regardless of the circumstances, and many expect this to be their fifth, as do Everton.
Everton vs West Ham United Prediction: Everton 2-1 West Ham United
As brutal as losing those games is, we don’t think the gap between West Ham and Everton is anywhere near as wide as some commenters seem to think it is. For starters, looking at the teams they lost to – Liverpool, Arsenal and the Wolves – these are some of the toughest teams out there and although it’s still a painful start, they showed enough to potentially cause Everton a lot of problems.
However, we still don’t think they’ll get the win, as Everton have looked especially motivated this season. Considering that, and the fact that Everton’s games rarely go without a clean sheet and tend to be fairly high scoring, we think the end result here will be 2-1 in Everton’s favour.
Our recommended tip: Everton win
Everton come into this match with the advantage and a 46% win probability to West Ham’s 27%. Therefore, a safe bet is a match result for the home side. Coral are offering 21/20 odds on an Everton victory but those wanting to go higher risk can predict that the team will manage to keep a clean sheet and win to nil. As we said previously, we predict that West Ham will manage to score during the 90 minutes, but those willing to take the risk will get higher odds of 29/10 on this result from Coral.
Although it doesn’t change our belief that Everton will win the match, their last meeting does back up our feeling that this is going to be a tough challenge for them. This is because the last time these two met back in May of this year, West Ham walked away with a 3-1 victory. However, this advantage is somewhat diluted considering the fact that Everton bested them 4-0 at the tail end of last year.
Before this, they traded wins and losses pretty much evenly all the way back to 2014, where Everton had more success. For modern clashes though, we’d say they are pretty much neck-and-neck.

Players to watch: Bernard & Marko Arnautović
Everton – Bernard
With Everton being plagued by injuries – Theo Walcott is out with a rib injury, both Phil Jagielka and Idrissa Gueye have knee issues, Michael Keane suffered a head injury and so on – there are few players to pick from in terms of standouts. However, Brazilian transfer Bernard is tipped to start for the team and this will be a massive opportunity to see what he can do. Hopefully, Everton can manage to pull an opportunity out of their injury difficulties.
West Ham United – Marko Arnautović
Considering that late last year, new manager David Hoyes said that Marko Aranautović had to work harder or risk losing his job, the turnaround we’ve seen since then has been nothing short of remarkable. Despite his rocky start, he managed 11 goals in his first season and is currently the highest West Ham scorer this season, with his two goals being one the struggling team’s few high points.
