Fortuna Dusseldorf welcome Bayern Munich to the North Rhine area this weekend, with the visitors looking to cement their grip on the Bundesliga’s top spot. The home side are in decent form, having won their last two Bundesliga games, with four wins in their last six league games. The newly promoted team are on course to stay in the Bundesliga for the second successive season for the first time since 1996. They have taken 28 points from their last 14 league matches, a fine record only bettered by three clubs during the same period.
Bayern head into this game on the back of a fine 5-0 thrashing of old rivals Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker last weekend. That win was Bayern’s seventh victory in an impressive eight-game unbeaten run, and Niko Kovac’s team will feel confident heading into Sunday’s game.
Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Bayern Munich Prediction: Fortuna 1-2 Bayern
Our prediction for this game is that the away team will win the game 2-1. They will have to work hard for the victory, though, and it may well take a late Robert Lewandowski goal for them to seal the win in the end. In the reverse fixture between the teams earlier in the season, Fortuna showed Bayern that they were a team who can fight until the dying seconds of the game, and Bayern will need to be at their confident best to win on Sunday. Things might well not be resolved until injury time, as they were back in November in Dusseldorf.
Our recommended tip: Bayern, both score
Our featured tip for this game comes from Coral, who are offering odds of 11/8 on Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score. We think that this bet offers good value in terms of the odds on offer, as many of the other markets on offer have very short odds for a Bayern win. The bet also gives you a certain amount of flexibility when it comes to the precise final scoreline. There were plenty of goal scored when these two sides last met, and we suspect that spectators may see a few more on Sunday.
Previous matches
These two sides have clashed on one previous occasion this season, meeting in the Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena on November 24. The game ended in a 3-3 draw, with Dusseldorf coming back from a 3-1 deficit to tie things up in injury time at the end of the game. Belgian midfielder Dodi Lukebakio scored a hat-trick for Fortuna that day, becoming the first Bundesliga player to score a hat-trick past Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Nicklas Sule scored Bayern’s first goal that day, with their other two coming from Thomas Muller, who scored in the 20th and 58th minutes.

Players to watch: Dodi Lukebakio & Robert Lewandowski
Bayern will need to keep a close eye on Dodi Lukebakio this weekend. The Belgian scored all three of Fortuna’s goals in the reverse fixture earlier this season, and he carries plenty of threat. Lukebakio is on loan at Dusseldorf from Premier League outfit Watford, and has scored eight Bundesliga goals from 25 games in total in 2018/19, and has provided three assists. He has also scored three goals in the German Cup.
Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski is the Bundesliga’s top scorer this season, with 21 league goals in 27 games in 2018/19. He has also provided his team-mates with seven assists. He has scored eight of those goals in his last five games, a strong indication of his current good form. Ominously perhaps for Fortuna, they are the only Bundesliga club against whom he is yet to score in his career.
