Manchester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers – Betting Tips & Predictions – 06-10

Last updated & checked: 10/08/2021

Wolverhampton Wanderers managed to get their first league win of the season last weekend, winning 2-0 at home to Watford. They will be looking to build on that victory when they travel to the Etihad to face Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

City will be without star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who has a groin injury. The home side will be looking to continue their amazing goalscoring form in the league. In their last 44 Premier League games, Pep Guardiola’s side have only failed to score in one match, against Huddersfield Town last season.
City have also won their last 10 Premier League games on a Sunday, making it even tougher for Wolves to achieve a first top-flight victory over City since 1979.

Manchester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Prediction: City 2-0 Wolves

Our prediction for this game is that the home side will enjoy a comfortable victory. Wolves have not been in great league form so far this season, only achieving their first league victory of the season last week, although they have shown some good form in the Europa League. City are almost unbeatable at home, and we do not see Wolves having enough steel or attacking power to upset the champions on their own turf. A two-goal margin looks likely, even though City will be without creative talisman Kevin De Bruyne.

Our recommended tip: City, 2-0

Our featured tip for this game comes from Betway, who are offering odds of 11/2 on our prediction of a 2-0 victory for the home side turning out to be accurate. We cannot see any way that Wolves will get a positive result from this game, and we anticipate that City may well have it wrapped up by half-time. Since losing to Norwich City in the league on September 14, City have won five games in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and conceding just one. That is awesome form and we think that Wolves will next on the City chopping block.

Previous matches

These two sides have met on a total of 10 previous occasions in the Premier League. City have won six of those games, with four of those victories coming at home. Wolves have won two Premier League games against City, but both of those victories have been at home at Molineux.
Last season, Wolves managed to draw 1-1 with City in the league match at Molineux in August, with a goal from Willy Boly. Aymeric Laporte scored for City. The reverse fixture, at the Etihad in January, ended in a 3-0 win for the home side.

Players to watch: Sergio Aguero & Willy Boly

Given the riches of attacking talent at City’s disposal, it can be hard to pick out individuals, but Sergio Aguero is once again playing a starring role for Guardiiola’s team in 2019/20. The Argentine already has eight Premier League goals to his credit this season, and has also weighed in with two assists. Two of his goals have come from the penalty spot, which is worth noting if City are awarded a spot kick.

If Wolves are to have any chance of achieving a positive result on Sunday they will need defenders like Willy Boly to play well. The Ivorian scored against City last season in the 1-1 draw at Molineux. But it is his tackling that will be needed on Sunday afternoon. Boly has made 23 tackles so far this season, more than any other Wolves player, in the Premier League. Significantly perhaps, he has also created two big chances in the opposition penalty area.
