Millwall vs Everton – Betting Tips & Predictions – 26/01

Last updated & checked: 10/08/2021

There’s no point being anything but blunt here – not only are Everton in a higher league than Millwall but they are performing better there too. With that in mind, there is little doubt as to who the bookmakers’ favourites is here.

However, both teams have had quite the seesaw season in terms of both results and performances, meaning there remains an element of mystery. For example, Everton recently traded wins and losses with Southampton and Bournemouth, while Millwall’s trio of Championship victories fell apart in the middle of January with a loss to Blackburn and a draw with Middlesbrough. Away from the leagues, both managed a 2-1 win over their respective FA Cup opponents.

While there is a clear bookies’ favourite, there’s certainly enough variables in each team’s performance to make this an interesting matchup.

Millwall vs Everton Prediction: Millwall 0-1 Everton

The unpredictability of Everton in particular throughout 2018 and even in the early stages of 2019 have left what would otherwise be a fairly cut and dry prediction open to a little more debate. If Everton underestimate their opponents and have an off day, there’s a chance that Millwall could steal this one.

However, that’s a lot of things to go Millwall’s way for them to secure victory. As for what’s most likely to happen, the difference in recent success speaks for itself – even if we do think it will be a tougher bout than many suggest. With that in mind, our Millwall vs Everton prediction is for the Toffees to walk away with a 1-0 victory.

Our recommended tip: Everton win

The bookmakers are giving the clear advantage to Everton in this FA Cup 4th round contest. This is unlikely to come as too much of a surprise though, as the away team are playing in a division above their opponents – and performing better there too. Everton are currently sitting around the middle of the Premier League standings in 11th position, while Millwall have slipped down to 19th place in the Championship table. The bookmakers are reflecting this gulf in league performance, with Coral offering Millwall match odds of 19/5 compared to 8/11 for Everton, making the latter a safer bet.

Previous matches

It’s actually incredibly rare that we get to see a Millwall vs Everton match, with the last one taking place all the way back in 2006. That’s just another reason why the FA Cup is such a special and interesting tournament.

In their last match, Everton walked away with a 1-0 win – the same as our prediction here – and earlier that year, they went to a 1-1 stalemate. You have to head back to the 90s to find another bout between the two, which is also when Millwall last won this fixture in a 4-2 result.

Overall, Everton have won the most recent match and have the stat advantage by a couple of games, so they get the slight edge here.

Players to watch: Shane Ferguson & Richarlison

Millwall: Shane Ferguson

The man who brought Millwall to this contest after his double header led them to a 2-1 victory over Hull in their last FA Cup match will certainly be one to watch. It’ll be interesting to see if he can recapture that kind of show-stealing performance here. That second goal in particular was magic, and that’s exactly what Millwall will need to make it through a Championship side. While we’re not sure whether Ferguson will start off this contest, that hardly stopped him last time around.

Everton: Richarlison
Many are suggesting that Silva’s tactic regarding Richarlison is the wrong way to go, and he’s better off moving him from the centre forward position – where his playing is restricted – to the left where he did so well earlier in the season despite the risks involved. Regardless, Richarlison is the key to Everton’s strategy here, and is the one to watch early on to get a sense of where the match is headed.
