Philadelphia Union are currently top of the MLS Eastern Conference, and Canadian side Montreal Impact face a genuinely tough test at Stade Saputo on Saturday night. Montreal have lost their last four MLS matches, and have slipped to sixth place in the Eastern Conference table. They lost 2-1 to Columbus Crew at MAPFRE Stadium in their last game.
The Union suffered a real setback on July 17, when they were hammered 4-0 away at Real Salt Lake, a disappointing result which followed on from a 2-2 draw at home to Orlando City. They bounced back in some style last weekend, though, winning 2-0 at home to Chicago Fire. Marco Fabian and Anthony Fontana scored the goals for Philadelphia.
Montreal Impact vs Philadelphia Union Prediction: Impact 1-2 Union
Our prediction for this game is that it will end in a 2-1 win for the away side, who will strengthen their grip on the top place in the Eastern Conference league table. Montreal have lost their four games and have found that losing has become a hard habit to shake. The Union have shown that they can recover from setbacks and look a good bet to finish the season at the top of the table. Impact may well take the lead in this game, but the Union will end up as the winners.
Our recommended tip: Union, both score
Our featured tip for this game is from British bookmaker William Hill. There, you can find odds of 17/5 for Philadelphia to win the game with both teams scoring. We think that this is a good bet for a number of reasons. First, the value that it offers to astute punters is very good. The bet also gives you a fair bit of flexibility when it comes to the actual scoreline, which could be important in this game. We suspect that Impact may well take the lead early on, but succumb to Union’s attacking power in the end, and this bet matches up with that perfectly.
This will be the second meeting between these two sides in the MLS this season, with the Union having found the first game a pretty straightforward challenge. The Pennsylvania outfit were comfortable victors in Chester on April 20, triumphing 3-0. Cory Burke opened the scoring for the home side, before a Jamiro Monteiro penalty kick put them into a 2-0 lead at the interval. The victory was completed by a Alejandro Bedoya in the game’s 57th minute.
The two sides have met nine times in total in Montreal. The Impact have won six of those games, Union two and there has been one draw.

Players to watch: Saphir Taïder & Kacper Przybylko
French-born Algerian international Saphir Taïder is Montreal’s top goalscorer this season, aving bagged a total of seven goals in his 21 MLS games in 2019. Of those goals, three have been game-winning goals. Significantly, four of his seven strikes have come from the penalty spot, so Union will need to watch their tackles in the penalty area. He has also weighed in with four assists, one of which has produced a game-winning goal.
German-born Pole Kacper Przybylko is the Union’s top goalscorer this season, having found the net nine times in his 16 MLS games so far in 2019. Two of those goals have turned out to be game-winning strikes. He has also provided one assist for his team-mates. Przybylko missed a small stretch of the season in March with a toe injury, but has recovered now. He will be looking to add to his tally of goals this weekend.
