The bottom two sides in Group B of the Champions League clash in Eindhoven on Wednesday evening, with PSV welcoming Tottenham Hotspur to the Netherlands. Both of these teams could use a victory, with Barcelona and Internazionale making the early pace in the group. Neither Spurs nor PSV has picked up a single point from their two group games so far in this season’s Champions League.
Spurs head into this game on the back of a 1-0 win away at West Ham at the weekend. Erik Lamela scored the game’s only goal, just before the interval. Mauricio Pochettino’s men now sit in fourth place in the Premier League table, just two points behind table-toppers Manchester City. PSV warmed up for this game with a 6-0 thrashing of FC Emmen in the Eredivisie on Saturday. Mark van Bommel’s team now lead the Dutch top tier, having taken 27 points from their nine games.
PSV Eindhoven vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction: PSV 1-1 Spurs
Our prediction is that this game will end in a 1-1 draw. While PSV have been in outstanding form domestically, the Eredvisie is not of the same overall standard as the Premier League. Spurs, though, have not shown great form in this season’s Champions League, having lost in Milan to Inter and at home to Barcelona. Confidence could therefore be low for the Londoners, despite their decent league form. We think that home advantage will give the Dutch side the confidence to go into an early lead, and then hold on for a draw after Spurs equalise.
Our recommended tip: 1-1 draw
Our featured tip for this game comes from Betway, who are offering tempting odds of 6/1 on the game ending in a 1-1 draw. As stated above, we think that Spurs will be suffering from a lack of confidence in Europe, while PSV have home advantage. Erik Lamela’s fitness will be important. If he can play, Spurs will feel more confident. The home side will find this game tougher than an Eredvisiie match, though. We feel that the draw is the likeliest outcome for this game, with both teams capable of scoring goals. Odds of 6/1 make 1-1 a good bet.
The only previous occasion on which these two teams met in a competitive fixture was back in 2008, in the UEFA Cup. The sides faced each other in the round of 16, with Eindhoven winning the two-legged tie. The first leg in London was won 1-0 by PSV, Jefferson Farfan scoring the game’s only goal in the 34th minute. The second leg in Holland was won 1-0 by Spurs, thanks to an 84th minute goal from Dimitar Berbatov. PSV won the tie on penalties to claim a quarter-final spot. They would lose to Fiorentina in the next round of the competition.

Players to watch: Gaston Pereiro & Erik Lamela
Uruguayan attacking midfielder Gaston Pereiro has been an important part of the PSV team in 2018/19. He scored twice at the weekend in the 6-0 demolition of FC Emmen, taking his tally in the Eredivisie this season to seven. He has also provided three assists in the league. He has netted once in Europe, in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League, but is yet to find the net in the grouo stage.
Erik Lamela scored with a glancing header against West Ham at the weekend, securing a vital three points for Spurs. He has scored five goals and provided three assists in his eight Premier League appearances in 2018/19. Saturday’s game was the Argentine’s first league start of the season, though, and he has to manage his fitness carefully so that he can make maximum impact in matches, due to the recurrence of hip problems, an issue which has plagued him throughout his career.
