Rangers welcome Celtic to Ibrox on Saturday for the traditional end of year Glasgow Old Firm derby. Celtic are currently top of the Scottish Premiership table, with Rangers three points behind in second place. Neither side is having a particularly easy time of it in the league this year, though, with both teams dropping points on a regular basis. Kilmarnock are lurking just a point behind the Gers in the league table, while the Edinburgh teams and Aberdeen are also challenging.
But for Saturday the Old Firm’s focus will be very much on each other. The Gers have won just two of the last six league games, while Celtic have won their last three matches in the Premiership. Celts boss Brendan Rodgers is also unbeaten against Rangers during his reign at Parkhead. Since 2016, he has recorded 10 wins and two draws against the Light Blues.
Rangers vs Celtic Prediction: Rangers 1-2 Celtic
Our prediction for this game is that Celtic will prevail in the end, but they will need to battle for the three points. Ibrox looks set to be a passionate and noisy place on Saturday, and the Celts will need all their experience if they want to subdue that passion and quieten the crowd. Momentum will swing back and forth between both teams, but we predict that the Hoops will emerge victorious in the end. It may require a late goal, but Brendan Rodgers will maintain his fine record against Rangers, with Celtic winning 2-1.
Our recommended tip: Celtic, both score
Our featured tip for this game comes from Ladbrokes, where you can find odds of 16/5 on Celtic to win and both teams to score. This bet fits with our prediction of a 2-1 win for the Hoops, but also gives you a fair bit of flexibility when it comes to the precise final score. Ladbrokes’ odds for this market are also slightly better than those on offer elsewhere, with 3/1 more common on this market at other bookies. The momentum in Old Firm games often swings back and forth frequently, and we expect both teams to score in this game.
Rangers do not have a good recent record against Celtic, and conceded five goals to them in April 2017 and again a year later. Brendan Rodgers is unbeaten in 12 games against Rangers since becoming Celtic boss, with 10 of those games being victories and two draws. The Gers conceded 14 goals to the Hoops in their clashes last season. Earlier this season, the two sides met in a Scottish Premiership game at Celtic Park on September 2. The Hoops won that day, triumphing 1-0 thanks to a 62nd minute goal from midfielder Olivier Ntcham.

Players to watch: Scott Arfield & Scott Sinclair
Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has become a key man for Steven Gerrard’s team this season. The Canadian international has made 27 appearances in all competitions in 2018/19, and has weighed in with six goals. He has also provided four assists in the Scottish Premiership. Arfield is currently battling to recover from a hamstring injury to be fit in time for the game. Rangers have a long injury list at the moment, so having Arfield back will give Gerrard’s team a real boost.
Scott Sinclair scored a hat-trick in Celtic’s 4-3 win over Aberdeen on Boxing Day. The English forward doubled his tally for the season with those three goals, having netted six times in the Premiership in 218/19 for the Celts. The Hoops have plenty of competition for places in the attacking spots in the side, so Sinclair will be hoping that he can build on his hat-trick and find the net against Rangers.
