Swansea vs Manchester City – Betting Tips & Predictions – 16-03

Last updated & checked: 10/08/2021

To put it bluntly, Swansea have a pretty steep mountain to climb in order to walk away with a victory here. While they’ve had success elsewhere in the FA Cup – they bested both Gillingham and Brentford 4-1 –, this a challenge on a whole other level. Not only that but they’ve also struggled with their form in the Championship, losing three of their last four outings.

Manchester City, on the other hand, are on absolute fire at the moment. They won every game they had in February and look like they might continue that trend in March, especially after that awe-inspiring 7-0 victory over Schalke in the Champions League play-offs. With so few flaws in their game, they are an incredibly tough team to take down.

Swansea vs Manchester City Prediction: Swansea 0-3 Man City

It’s important to remember that while Manchester City may look invincible right now, you could have said that on many occasions in the past, only for the Premier League leaders to find themselves shocked by an underdog side. However, we’re not holding out too much hope of that being the case here. After all, the reason it’s a shock is because it doesn’t happen very often.

Manchester City simply look too strong for Swansea to overcome and we think their level of skill and talent will overwhelm the Welsh side. For that reason, our scoreline prediction is 3-0 in Manchester City’s favour.

Our recommended tip: Manchester City win to nil

It’s hardly a surprise that the team at the top of the Premier League standings holds the clear advantage over the team in the middle of the Championship table. Manchester City have been on incredible form, winning all 10 of their most recent matches. Paddy Power are offering low-risk 1/9 odds on an away win. However, considering half of those matches were won with a clean sheet, we recommend that you instead predict that Manchester City will win to nil to still get low-risk odds of 4/6 and a higher potential ROI.

Previous matches

History has not been kind to Swansea when it comes to this fixture. Not only do Manchester City have an overwhelming amount of victories overall, but they’ve only become more dominant as time has gone on. You have to head all the way back to 2012 to find a win for the Welsh side: a 1-0 effort in the Premier League. And that timeframe represents over a dozen games.

Before that, Swansea last emerged victorious in 1983, although fewer games took place in that period. To close the book on our evidence of how dominant City have been, their last match in April 2018 saw them best Swansea 5-0.

Players to watch: Daniel James & Sergio Agüero

Swansea: Daniel James

With star goalscorer Oliver Mcburnie very possibly still out for this contest, Swansea will have to look elsewhere to find ways to attack Manchester City. Considering his absolutely staggering performance against Brentford – which saw them come roaring back in the second half to secure a 4-1 victory –, we can’t think of anyone better qualified on the Swansea squad than Daniel James. Recapturing some of that magic here will be key to the side’s chances.

Manchester City: Sergio Agüero

Looking at Manchester City’s goalscoring record in the last few months is enough to send shivers down an upcoming opponent’s spine. Just consider their most recent 7-0 result against Schalke, or their victory over Rotherham by the same score. There’s also that 6-0 win over Chelsea, not to mention their 5-0 result against Burnley – the same scoreline as their last meeting with Swansea. And no one has contributed more to this devastation of defences than Sergio Agüero.
