Valencia vs Villarreal – Betting Tips & Predictions – 18/04

Last updated & checked: 10/08/2021

The home team come into this with a two-goal advantage from the first leg, and have even performed measurably better away from the Europa League. Both teams are in the La Liga and the standings pretty much speak for themselves. Valencia sit in sixth place, while Villarreal are mere points above the drop zone. Not only that but Valencia have only lost a handful of times in 2019.

However, while Villarreal do have a mountain to climb here, it’s not all been doom and gloom for the side. They looked great against Zenit Petersburg. And it wasn’t that long ago that they took apart Sevilla in a comprehensive 3-0 victory: a team that sit above Valencia in the La Liga standings. The home team have reason to be confident but they should also think twice before considering this a done deal.

Valencia vs Villarreal Prediction: Valencia 1-0 Villarreal

While Villarreal have proven themselves more than capable of taking on a team the calibre of Valencia, they have also shown that, unfortunately for them, they don’t maintain that level often enough. Unlike many Europa League games, we have a clearly comparable recent domestic record to prove as much. With that in mind, we expect Valencia to come away with the victory yet again – although we think it will be with a more defensive performance as opposed to the frantic display in the first leg. Therefore, our scoreline prediction is 1-0 to the home team.

Our recommended tip: Valencia win

Valencia have already enjoyed success in their first leg quarter-final Europa League match and the bookmakers are expecting them to emerge victorious here once again. Sitting nine places and 16 places ahead of their opponents in the La Liga standings, Valencia enjoy much better bookmaker odds than their upcoming opponents. At BetVictor, the home side have low-risk 8/11 match odds, while Villarreal supporters will find higher risk 18/5 odds on a win. Therefore, for your best chance of winning your wager, we recommend that you back Valencia to victory here.

Previous matches

Often when we look at Europa League games, it’s between two sides that are facing each other for the first time or have rarely met over the years. That is far from the case with these two, who have a long and storied history. What’s interesting here is that this year, Valencia have beaten Villarreal twice: once in the first leg we’ve mentioned but also by 3-0 in January. That seems pretty comprehensive. But look back a year and you’ll find a trio of wins for Villareal. It’s a clear example of how disastrous this season has been for them. They’ll no doubt be hoping for a return to form here.

Top 3 Europa League Bookies

Players to watch: Daniel Parejo & Samuel Chukwueze

Valencia: Daniel Parejo

We were tempted to give this one to Gonçalo Guedes considering his excellent outing in the first leg. He was dynamite all night and scored the final goal. However, we’ve instead gone for their La Liga key goalscorer Daniel Parejo, as we feel he’s taken a bit of a back seat thus far in the Europa League. This is the time that he needs to focus and showcase his talents on the international stage.

Villarreal: Samuel Chukwueze

What Villarreal need in these trying times are up-and-coming players who can show them a brighter future. And few shine quite as spectacularly as 19-year-old Nigerian international Samuel Chukwueze. His brilliant seven-minute strike helped Villarreal get a much needed victory over Girona and, although he failed to make that kind of impact in the first leg, he is someone that Valencia need to be very, very wary of.
