West Ham will be feeling confident ahead of facing Manchester United at the London stadium on Saturday lunchtime. The Hammers thrashed League Two club Macclesfield Town 8-0 in the League Cup in midweek. The Red Devils, in contrast, were dumped out of the competition by Derby County, who won on penalties after the game at Old Trafford was tied up at 2-2 after 90 minutes. Last weekend, Jose Mourinho’s team were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Wolverhampton Wanderers. West Ham will need to be at their best, though, as the visitors will surely be smarting after their last two results.
West Ham vs Manchester United Prediction: West Ham 1-2 Manchester United
Our prediction is that the home side will be beaten 2-1 this Saturday lunchtime. Although the Hammers will feel confident after their performance in the League Cup earlier this week, the Red Devils will be smarting after their loss on penalties in the same competition at home to Derby County. The Red Devils will also want to get back to winning ways in the league, having drawn at home with Wolves last time out. Javier Hernandez may score first for the Hammers, but the Red Devils will bounce back to take the game in the end, possibly with a late goal.
Our recommended tip: Man Utd 2-1
Our featured tip comes from William Hill, who are offering odds of 7/1 on the away team winning this game 2-1. We think that West Ham will probably take the lead in the first half, with Javier Hernandez a good bet to score, but will face a tough fight back from the away side in the second half. Manchester United’s quality forward line will in the end locate the cracks in the Hammers’ defence, and force their way through them. The two goals that United will score in the second half may well come very late in the game, though.
West Ham have faced Manchester United 44 times in the Premier League in total. Out of those 44 games, the Red Devils have won 27, and there have been 12 draws. West Ham have beaten the Mancunians just five times in the Premier League. Last season, the teams met twice in the Premier League. The first game was at Old Trafford and was won 4-0 by the home side. The second game, at the London Stadium, finished goalless. That 0-0 draw confirmed Manchester United would finish second in the Premier League to their neighbours Manchester City.

Players to watch: Javier Hernandez & Paul Pogba
Mexican striker Javier Hernandez is a man to watch for West Ham. He is a former Man Utd player, so will be keen to perform well against his old team. A natural penalty box predator, the diminutive forward has a real eye for goal, and the Red Devils will need to keep a close eye on him. He would also be delighted to find the net against his former employers. Betting on him to score is a good idea.
Paul Pogba has never really lived up to his reputation at Old Trafford, and seems to be heading closer to the exit door with each passing week. There was another training ground bust up with manager Jose Mourinho this week, which went viral on the internet. Whether that will motivate Pogba to actually produce a quality performance remains to be seen. He certainly owes the United manager and fans one, though.
