If you’ve been to any decent online bookmaker in the past few years, you might have noticed how many of these bookies take great pride in offering cash out facilities. But what is a cash out, and how can you take advantage of this to add something extra to your sports betting?

Our guide to cashing out will show you the meaning of cash out, and we will show you how this feature has transformed the sports betting world. By giving you our cash out definition, you will be in a great place to take control of your bets, as we will also reveal our shortlist of the best betting sites with cash out options. And with some handy tips on how to cash out your bets in the most profitable way possible, you should have everything you need to take advantage of this great new feature of sports betting.

What does cash out mean?

Cashing out a bet basically means that you stop the progress of a bet before it has been settled. This means that you could walk away with a decent profit or even avoid a nasty loss regardless of the outcome of a sporting event. By cashing out your bets early, it may mean that you don’t win as much as if you had waited around for the bet to be settled. But it also means that you could still walk away with some money even if the whole bet looks like it was going to end badly.

If you are still wondering what is cash out, then it could be good to show you a quick example of cash out betting in practice. Imagine that you had placed a simple match winner bet for Manchester City to beat Chelsea in the Premier League. At half-time, Manchester City were 1-0 up, but Chelsea were looking increasingly likely that they might be able to claw back an equaliser. This is the point where you might want to consider cashing out your football bets. If you waited until the end of the match, then you would get a larger betting profit, but by cashing in your bets early, you will be able to guarantee yourself some decent money regardless of what happened in the later stages of the match.

Whilst anybody can understand the meaning of cash out, it’s not always so immediately clear how the bookies calculate their prices for cashing out a bet. Simply put, they will look at your original betting stake, examine the run of play, and then generate a cash out price that reflects the changed circumstances. Don’t forget that some bookmakers even allow you to make a partial cash out where you don’t necessarily lose the whole of the bet upon cashing out.

What kinds of sports bets can you cash out?

The great thing about cashing out your bets, is that most bookmakers allow you to use this innovative feature on a wide range of bet types and betting markets. The majority of bookies will usually warn against assuming that you will be able to cash out a bet, but cash out options are starting to a part on more bookmakers’ sites for a growing number of sporting events.

Most decent bookies will allow you to cash out your bets for major sports that include the likes of football, tennis, cricket, golf, basketball, boxing and much more. However, as in-play betting has been slow to come to horse racing, then there is a good chance that your preferred bookmaker might not allow you to cash out your horse racing bets.

Similarly, you should be able to cash out a wide range of prematch and in-play bets. Many bookmakers will allow you to cash out single bets and some multiple bets too. However, we should mention the fact that some bookies won’t allow you to cash out each-way bets, and some system bets may not be able to be cashed out.

Why might you not be able to cash out a bet?

Now that we’ve explained the meaning of cash out, you might want to rush out and see how you can take advantage of this innovative sports betting feature. However, we have found that you can’t always cash out your bets. Here are some of the most common reasons why cashing out might not be an option for your sports bets.

You can’t cash out extra bet bonuses and promotions

If you have managed to pick up some extra bet tokens as part of a bookmaker’s welcome bonus deal, then there is a good chance that you won’t be able to cash these out early. This also applies for many other sports betting promotions where you get extra bets in return for carrying out certain kinds of sports bets. It’s also true that you won’t usually be able to cash out any bets that you made with any kind of enhanced odds offers.

Some betting markets and betting types aren’t suitable for cashing out

We have already stated that cashing in your bets on a single horse racing bet isn’t usually an option, and it’s this is also true for other niche sports that don’t get as much attention as major sports. Certain betting markets also don’t lend themselves to cashing out such as odd/even markets, and similarly some each-way bets, system bets and outright bets might not be covered by the cash out feature.

Other reasons why you might not be able to cash out your bets

Ultimately, it’s at the bookies’ discretion as to whether or not you can cash out your bets. If the cash out price takes a sudden change, then there’s a good chance that the bookmaker will suspend the cash out option. If the cash out value is of a negligible amount, then you obviously won’t be able to cash it out. But as a rule, it’s always best to check whether the bookie permits a cash out first so as to avoid disappointment.

Top bookmakers who allow you to cash out your bets

Many of the bookmakers who have made our shortlist of best betting sites will include some kind of cash out feature. But we have found that some bookies seem to routinely give you a better cash out price than others. So here is just a handful of the bookmakers who have taken the cashing out service to the next level.

Paddy Power also provide an excellent cash out service that covers many top sports. What marks Paddy Power out from the competition is the fact that they even allow you to partially cash out your sports bets from their website or even their mobile app. This means that you get the best of both worlds and enjoy the luck of the Irish when it comes to cashing out your Paddy Power bets on a large range of betting markets and bet types.

This top UK bookie are renowned for their straight-talking approach to sports betting. But that hasn’t stopped them from putting on a great Betfred cash out service that can come to your assistance should you be a little nervous about your sports bet taking a nosedive at the last minute. You can’t cash out any horse racing single bets at Betfred, but the brand extend their cash out feature to a surprisingly large number of sports betting markets.

Ladbrokes are another classic UK bookmaker who have taken to the cashing out concept with ease. Whether you are using the Ladbrokes website or their mobile app, you can quickly cash out your Ladbrokes sports bet whilst the going’s good. The bookie have earned plenty of acclaim for giving you some fair and generous cash out prices, so if in doubt, be sure to see what Ladbrokes have to offer.

Bethard might be a relatively new face on the sports betting scene, but they have quickly made a big splash thanks to their excellent cash out feature. The bookmaker don’t allow you to cash out your system bets, but you can easily cash out anything from a prematch accumulator bet to an in-play single bet. What’s great about cashing out at Bethard is the fact that they also include partial cash out options, so that you still make a fair profit regardless of how early you cashed out part of your bet earlier.
