Royal Ascot races date back to the early Eighteenth Century and the reign of Queen Anne. Since 1711 it’s been an annual tradition for Flat horse racing to take place here in this corner of Berkshire in front of royalty. Many of the events on the Royal Ascot race card have significant histories of their own but it all comes together over five days of elite action in the middle of June.
This festival of Flat horses is the absolute zenith of the British and Irish racing calendar in its sphere with entries from all around the world not uncommon. With 30 races – six per day – to bet on, you can always be sure to find plenty of Ascot tips for the royal meeting. There are eight Group 1 events across the five days and as many Group 2s, plus a host of hot handicaps and other top-class races. There is something for everyone at Royal Ascot 2024 from juvenile races over the flying 5f right up to stayers’ contests for the older horses like the Gold Cup over 2m 4f and Queen Alexandra Stakes which is even further in terms of distance, so take it all in and enjoy.

Rest assured, we’ve got every racecourse covered
Betting on Ascot events are only the beginning. This dual-purpose racecourse hosts both Flat and National Hunt racing at different times of year, but we go way beyond the battles on the level and over jumps in Berkshire – including at nearby Newbury too. OpenOdds provide coverage from all major racecourses in the UK and Ireland, and even some events abroad. From Aintree to York and everything in-between, there’s great horse racing to get involved in all over the country and practically every day. There are other venues around the country like Chepstow in Wales, Sandown in Surrey and Ayr up in Scotland that are home to Flat and jumps racing, while courses elsewhere prefer to stick solely to one code. Cheltenham, for example, is where much of the best National Hunt action takes place. Newmarket, meanwhile, is known as the headquarters of the Flat. Everything from a 5f sprint to the ultimate endurance test of thoroughbreds at 4m (and further) over obstacles can be found at one time or another here. If there’s top class racing at a track, then we’ll be all over it. Check out further details on the main events in this sport of kings below…
The major event in horse racing to look out for
Before Royal Ascot races get underway, there’s plenty to whet your whistle with in the world of horse racing during the calendar year. The Cheltenham Festival, where the very best horses over jumps go, takes centre stage for four days in the middle of March and hot off the heels of that comes the Grand National meeting at Aintree. That extended 4m 2f handicap race on Merseyside over unique spruce covered fences is the ultimate taste of a thoroughbred’s stamina and several supporting events have grown up around it in April. Over in Ireland, the jumps season comes to a close with the Punchestown Festival, then it’s all about the Flat with the Guineas at Newmarket in early May. The Dante Festival at York, then the Epsom Oaks and The Derby follow soon after which leads us on nicely to the Royal Ascot race card itself. Those five days set the standard for the Flat season and the summer that follows. Things move fast now with the July Festival back at Newmarket, then Glorious Goodwood and the Ebor Festival at York later in August. Horses then head for end of season tests over Irish Champions Weekend in September or the Arc de Triomphe meeting in France and British Champions Day back at Ascot in October. Jumps action returns with a vengeance thereafter and there’s a host of absorbing National Hunt racing which peaks in and around Christmas time with the King George VI Chase at Kempton and Leopardstown’s festive meeting that rounds off the year in style.
