Here we have two top teams that have been struggling to retain their form as of late. Borussia Dortmund are just about clinging onto their top Bundesliga spot despite only winning a single match in February, while Tottenham Hotspur have had their Premier League title dreams dashed by the likes of Burnley, Chelsea, and an extremely unforgiving 2019. Nonetheless, we’d have to give the nod for the worst few weeks to the home team, especially as they come into this match with a three-goal deficit following their disastrous first leg.

Although their February results may have been negative, we are very positive about this match. After all, a bad spell doesn’t rob either of these sides of their brilliance. And with recent setbacks motivating both, we are hoping for an absolutely thrilling display in this Champions League clash.

Borussia Dortmund vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction: Borussia 2-1 Spurs

Our prediction for this match is both good and bad news for Borussia Dortmund. While Tottenham are, in our opinion, underrated by bookmakers, we can understand their reasoning for backing the home team here. Spurs are a side that lives and dies on their offence. Facing a team that are pushed into being the aggressor due to the deficit left by the first leg will likely force Tottenham into a game they’re not used to.

The bad news is we don’t think Dortmund will have enough of an advantage to make up the three-goal difference. With that in mind, our scoreline prediction is a 2-1 victory for Borussia Dortmund.

Our Betting Tip
Borussia Dortmund win
Odds
19/10

While Tottenham Hotspur are in a respectable third place in the Premier League standings, Borussia Dortmund are at the top of the Bundesliga table. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the home team hold the advantage in this contest. They come into the match with a 48% win probability to Tottenham Hotspur’s 26% – with a draw being just as likely as an away win. Therefore, we recommend that you back the favourites to victory to get the best chance of winning your wager. You will find competitive low-risk 19/20 Borussia Dortmund match odds at William Hill.

Previous matches

Not only do Tottenham hold a 3-0 advantage in this match due to their brilliant win in the first leg, but they also bested Dortmund in their previous Champions League clashes back-to-back, winning 3-1 and 2-1 consecutively. Before that, Dortmund themselves did the double in 2016 with a 3-0 and then a 2-1 victory in the UEFA Europa League.

So far, each time either team has won the first leg, they’ve also won the second. However, we’re going against the grain here. That’s because Dortmund have shown more in their Bundesliga season compared to previous years and we think they can turn the tide, at least in this leg.

Players to watch: Jadon Sancho & Moussa Sissoko

How ironic it would be if the man who leads Dortmund to victory over Tottenham is an English player. It’s not out of the realms of possibility though. Jadon Sancho had an utterly fantastic start to his season with Dortmund but, as the team suffered, so did his performances, right up until his sensational volley proved the difference maker against Leverkusen. As one of the hottest young prospects in football, there’s little doubt Sancho is one to watch.

While it’s Tottenham’s strikers that usually get all the attention, we feel that this is going to be a very different kind of match. Spurs will likely have to rely on their ability to intercept chances in order to make it through a Dortmund side who will have all their focus set to attack. For that job, there’s few better that Moussa Sissoko, who produced an astonishing performance in midfield against Arsenal, regaining possession on no less than 10 occasions.
