Bournemouth welcome Manchester United to the south coast on Saturday lunchtime looking to extend their run of fine form. Eddie Howe’s team are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table, two places and three points above United. Jose Mourinho’s reign at Old Trafford continues to seem less than content, and United’s performance last weekend against Everton, even though they won, looked uninspired. United have also lost at home to Juventus in the Champions League and away at West Ham in the Premier League in recent weeks.
Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last six Premier League games, and have won five and drawn one of those games. They have also progressed to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will face Chelsea, thanks to a 2-1 win over Championship side Norwich City in midweek.
Bournemouth vs Manchester United Prediction: Bournemouth 1-0 United
Our prediction for this game is that the home side will win 1-0. Bournemouth have looked very confident in recent weeks, and have kept a clean sheet in their last three league matches. United were actually the last team to beat Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, last season, back in April when the Red Devils won 2-0, so Howe’s team will need to be careful that there is no repeat of that result. Beating United is never easy, but this is the best chance that Bournemouth have had for years, and a 1-0 win looks a likely outcome on Saturday.
Our recommended tip: Bournemouth win
Our featured tip for this match comes from William Hill, who are offering odds of 12/5 on a Cherries win on the 1X2 market. We suspect that Bournemouth will win the game narrowly, most like by a single goal. United have not been looking smooth in recent games, and there are continual rumours of behind the scenes discontent at Old Trafford, often involving Paul Pogba. Pogba’s 26-step run-up to take his penalty against Everton last week is a good metaphor for United right now, in that there seems to be a lot of fuss without much tangible success.
These two teams have played each other on six previous occasions in the Premier League. Manchester United have won four of those games, Bournemouth one and there has been one draw. Bournemouth’s win came in December 2015, when they won 2-1 at home. Last season, both league encounters were won by United. They won 1-0 at Old Trafford in December 2017, and won the return match at the Vitality Stadium 2-0 in April 2018. That United victory at the Vitality last season was the last time that the Cherries were beaten at home.

Players to watch: Callum Wilson & [Player B]
Cherries striker Callum Wilson has managed 26 attempts on goal so far in 2018/19, with 11 of those attempts having been on target, a testament to the threat he poses to opposition defences. More significantly, he has also weighed in with six goals and five assists this season, with three of those goals coming in his last three Premier League games. He has also scored once in the Carabao Cup, and is the Cherries’ danger man in the absence of Josh King.
Romelu Lukaku may have started on the bench last weekend against Everton, but he remains a brooding and talismanic presence in the Manchester United squad. He also has a good personal record against Bournemouth, having scored eight goals in five games against them, and having been on the winning side in all of those games. The Belgian remains one of the world’s best strikers, whatever may be going on behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
