Table-topping Celtic welcome St Johnstone to Parkhead this Tuesday evening, with Brendan Rodgers’ team looking to extend their home league winning run to 12 games. History is on the side of the Celts too, with the Perth Saints not having beaten the Bhoys in the league since May 2016. That is a run of eight games, two of which have been draws.

The Bhoys have not dropped a point at Celtic Park in their 11 league matches so far in 2018/19. St Johnstone might take some hope from their own away record, though. The Perth Saints have the best away record in the Premiership this season, having won seven and lost four on the road, giving them 21 points from 11 games.

Celtic vs St Johnstone Prediction: Celtic 2-0 Saints

Despite St Johnstone’s fine away record this season, it is hard to see beyond a Celtic victory in this game. The Celts are a very strong team at home, as their 100% record at Celtic Park this season shows. Tommy Wright’s St Johnstone have won four out of their last five games. Their four-game winning run was brought to an end by Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle, who beat the Saints 2-0 on Saturday. We predict that the scoreline will be the same at Celtic Park on Wednesday evening, with Brendan Rodgers’ team taking the three points.

Our Betting Tip
Celtic 2-0
Odds
9/2

Our recommended tip: Celtic 2-0

Our featured tip for this game comes courtesy of Irish bookie Paddy Power, who are offering odds of 9/2 on the game finishing in a 2-0 victory for Celtic. We suspect that St Johnstone are good enough to restrict Celtic to a two-goal margin of victory, particularly given their recent good away record. We do not think that the Perth Saints have quite enough attacking power to trouble the Celtic defence too much, though. Odds of 9/2 indicate that the bookies feel that this scoreline is likely, but it is a price that still offers reasonable returns to the clever punter.

Previous matches

These two sides have met twice so far in 2018/19, once in the Scottish Premiership and once in the Scottish League Cup. The League Cup game was at the quarter-final stage of the competition, and was played at McDiarmid Park on September 26. Celtic won the game 1-0, thanks to an 83rd minute Leigh Griffiths strike.

The second meeting between the teams came in the Scottish Premiership on October 7, at McDiarmid Park. The Celts ran away with the game, winning 6-0, thanks to goals from James Forrest, who scored four, Odsonne Edouard and Callum McGregor.

Players to watch: Scott Sinclair & Tony Watt

Celtic’s English winger Scott Sinclair has been an effective contributor to his team’s cause in recent weeks. In his past six league games, the former Aston Villa man has been directly involved in seven goals, scoring six times and providing one assist. Given that new attacking talent recently arrived at Celtic, in the form of Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah, Sinclair will be looking to maintain that run of fine form and keep his place in the side.
Former Celtic striker Tony Watt will be very keen to impress against his old club on Wednesday evening. The 26-year-old has not fulfilled the potential he showed early on in his career as yet, but he has weighed in with seven goals in 25 games in all competitions in 2018/19, showing that he still knows how to find the opposition net when necessary. Powerful in the air, Watt will offer the Saints an out ball if they come under severe Celtic pressure.
