Chelsea welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Stamford Bridge this Sunday afternoon for what should be an entertaining Premier League clash. Maurizio Sarri’s team are looking for their third consecutive league victory, as they try and claw their way back in to the top four.
Since their controversial defeat on penalties to Manchester City in the League Cup final, the Blues have beaten Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham in the league, and Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League. In those three games, they have scored seven goals and conceded one.
Wolves go into the game looking to build on last week’s 2-0 home win over Cardiff City. They could also become the first newly promoted team to do a Premier League double over Chelsea since Charlton Athletic managed the feat in 2000/01.
Chelsea vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Wolves
Our prediction for this game is that Chelsea will win it pretty comfortably. The Blues played in the Europa League in midweek, but they were at home so there was no long journey to sap energy from the players’ legs. They also beat Dynamo Kiev 3-0, which will have been good for morale. Wolves’ overall record in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge is also poor. While the Midlands side beat Chelsea earlier this season, that was at home, and it does not look likely to us that they can complete a Premier League double over the Blues, who will win 2-1.
Our recommended tip: Chelsea, both score
Our featured betting tip for this game comes from Irish bookmaker Paddy Power. They are offering odds of 23/10 on Chelsea to win and both teams to score, which looks like a good wager to us. The bet matches our prediction of a 2-1 home win perfectly, but also gives you a little bit of flexibility when it comes to the actual final scoreline. Odds of 23/10 offer reasonable, if not outstanding, value, and astute punters can certainly profit from a carefully placed wager at those odds.
These two sides have met nine times in total in the Premier League. Out of those games, Chelsea have won seven times, Wolves twice and there have been no draws. Chelsea have won all four of their home Premier League games against Wolves, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two. This season is the first in which they have played each other in the English top tier since the 2011/12 season.
The last league meeting between the clubs was at Molineux in December. Wolves won the game 2-1, with goals from Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota.

Players to watch: Callum Hudson-Odoi & Joao Moutinho
Much of the talk surrounding Chelsea this week has been centred on Callum Hudson-Odoi. The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest young properties in the English game currently, and there have been calls for Sarri to play him more often. He scored Chelsea’s third goal in their 3-0 Europa League win over Dynamo Kiev in midweek, and it will be interesting to see if Sarri, who does not want to rush the player, picks him on Sunday.
Joao Moutinho could be an important player for Wolves at the weekend, as he is his team’s leading tackler this season. The Portuguese midfielder has made 90 tackles in the Premier League, more than any of his team-mates. His tackle success rate is 44%, and he has also blocked three shots. He contributes in attack too, having scored one goal and provided seven assists. He has made an average of 47.07 passes per game and created six big chances in total this season.
