Chicago Fire welcome DC United to the SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday evening, with the home side not in the greatest of recent form. This will be the Fire’s fifth match in 15 days, and they have not taken many points from their testing recent schedule. On Tuesday night, they lost to Cruz Azul in the 2019 Leagues Cup tournament.
DC’s record in their last five games is one win, two draws and two defeats, so they will be looking to rediscover some winning form this Saturday. They have been strong away from home in 2019, though, having picked up four wins and four draws away from home this season.
Wayne Rooney will, like Fire’s Bastien Schweinsteiger, be departing for Orlando after the game to be part of the MLS All Stars squad which faces Atletico Madrid next Wednesday.
Chicago Fire vs DC United Prediction: Fire 1-1 United
Neither of these sides has been in the greatest form in recent weeks, with both teams having a real problem finding victories. For that reason, we suspect that this game will end in a draw, with both teams scoring once. Both of these teams have shown in recent weeks that they know how to find the net, but lack a bit of winning steel. DC are strong on the road, too, and retain their place in the top four of the Eastern Conference despite their recent poor form. A draw suits United a lot more than it does the Fire.
Our recommended tip: Draw, both score
Our featured tip for this match comes from Betway, who are offering odds of 4/1 on the game endig in a draw with both teams scoring. As our prediction is that this game will end 1-1, this bet tallies up perfectly with our thoughts on how the game will turn out. Neither of these sides has been winning games in recent weeks, so it looks likely that this game will end all-square, particularly as both teams have shown that they know how to score goals. Odds of 4/1 offer some good value to punters too.
This will be the second time that these two sides have met in 2019. On May 29, the two sides clashed at Audi Field, in a game that ended in a 3-3 draw. The Fire had three separate goalscorers in that game, with forward CJ Sapong, midfielder Djordje Mihailović and defender Francisco Calvo all scoring in the game. Calvo’s late equaliser came two minutes into injury time in the second half, securing the Men in Red a vital point.
Fire’s all-tome record against DC United has seen them win 20 games, draw 23 and lose 17 since their inaugural season in 1998. They have won four, drawn four and lost nine at home against United.

Players to watch: Jonathan Bornstein & Wayne Rooney
Left back Jonathan Bornstein should make his debut for the Fire this weekend, assuming that he receives his International Transfer Certificate in time. The 34-year-old, 38-cap USA international has been plying his trade most recently in Israel with Maccabi Netanya. He offers plenty of experience to his new side, picked up over years playing in the MLS and Liga MX. He should help to stabilise the Fire’s left flank and provide a bit more solidity in defence.
Former England international Wayne Rooney remains one of DC United’s most potent attacking weapons, having directly contributed to 17 goals in the MLS in 2019. Of those goals, he has scored 11 and provided six assists for his team-mates. Despite his advancing years, the player remains a world-class forward, as shown by his selection for the MLS All Stars team. Capable of moments of pure quality, Fire will need to keep a close on the Scouse superstar if they want to win on Saturday.
