Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team make the trip to Tayside on Sunday to face struggling Dundee. The home side are languishing at the foot of the Scottish Premiership table currently, but did manage to win in midweek, when they triumphed 4-0 at home to Hamilton Academical. Rangers, in contrast, are second in the table, above third-placed Celtic on goal difference, and a point behind table-topping Kilmarnock. The Gers had been on a good run, winning their four Premiership games prior to facing the Dons. Their disciplinary record has cost them, though, with Gerrard’s team having picked up a red card in five of their last seven games. Assistant manager Gary McAllister has highlighted this as an issue that the team needs to improve urgently.
Dundee vs Rangers Prediction: Dundee 1-2 Rangers
Our prediction for this game is that Rangers will win narrowly. Dundee will have been encouraged by their emphatic win over Hamilton in midweek, which was a result that would have taken off the bottom of the table, had St Mirren not drawn away at Hibernian. They will push the visitors hard early on, and may well take the lead. Gerrard’s Light Blues are not the team they were last season, though, when they often folded under pressure. The men from Govan will fight hard, work hard and end up winning the game 2-1, possibly with a late goal.
Our recommended tip: Miller scores anytime
Our recommended tip this week comes courtesy of William Hill. They are offering odds of 10/3 on Dundee striker Kenny Miller, a former star for both Rangers and Celtic of course, to score a goal at any time in the game. Former players have a habit of coming back to haunt the clubs for whom they once played, and Miller is in good form. He hit a hat-trick against the Accies in midweek, and backing him to score against his former mates at the Gers would be a very good bet, in our view.
These two teams have met on one previous occasion this season, back on September 15 at Ibrox. The home side emerged as the victors on that day, triumphing 4-0. The Gers were leading 3-0 at half-time, thanks to goals from Lassana Coulibaly, Ryan Kent and a James Tavernier penalty. Glenn Middleton added a fourth goal in the 83rd minute. Dundee’s veteran striker Kenny Miller was sent off in the game’s 79th minute, playing against one of his former clubs. Rangers enjoyed 64% of the possession that day, and managed 19 shots on goal, 10 of which were on target.

Players to watch: Kenny Miller & Allan McGregor
The last time Kenny Miller played against Rangers this season he was sent off. He will want to make a much better impression against the Gers this time around. He warmed up for the Rangers game with a hat-trick against Hamilton in midweek, and has vowed to continue to supply the goals the Dark Blues need to start climbing the table. A goal against his former club would surely be treasured by both Miller and the Dundee fans alike.
Rangers’ Scotland goalkeeper Allan McGregor continues to display the kind of form for club and country which will one day see him recognised as one of Scotland’s greatest ever glovesmen. He has kept Rangers in games at times this season, and can be relied upon to pull off vital saves when needed. For a tricky away trip like this, Rangers fans will be glad to see a man like McGregor between the sticks for the Light Blues.
