France vs Peru – Betting Tips & Predictions – 21-06

FootballThursday, January 1. 1970 - 4:00 pmCentral Stadium

France will expect to book their place in the last 16 of the World Cup against Peru in Yekaterinburg – a result that would knock the South Americans out in the process after they lost their first game. Yet, they performed very well against Denmark despite losing, attacking with intent, pace and energy and missing a crucial penalty at 0-0 that could have changed the game completely.

Meanwhile, France did win their opening fixture but they were very disappointing in terms of their performance against Australia. They struggled to find any rhythm in their play, with the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe struggling up top. Ultimately, they are in a strong position though and will feel relaxed heading into the game knowing the pressure is all on Peru.

Here we will give you France vs Peru betting tips, look at where the game will be won, the key players and a France vs Peru prediction for the Group C encounter.

Our France vs Peru Prediction: France 2-1 Peru

Our France vs Peru prediction tips is for the Europeans to record a narrow victory that seals their qualification to the next round and eliminates their opponents.

Even though they have an unbelievably talented squad, they did not convince at all last time out and Didier Deschamps could make a few changes. One is likely to see Olivier Giroud return to the attack and his presence could help the side as he can hold the ball up and give them a different threat. He could also help Griezmann and Mbappe flourish which is crucial to this team. If they click they should have too much for most at the tournament – including Peru.

Yet, it’s going to be a tough encounter. Peru have real pace and flair in the final third and that will cause France trouble, particularly on the counter. The expected return of captain and key scorer Paolo Guerrero should give them more cutting edge in the final third too. Given that, they certainly have enough about them to score against the French but ultimately they don’t have the quality to match France if they find their stride.

Our recommended tip – France to win

As mentioned, we expect this to be a real test for France but the win against Australia should ease their nerves and allow them to play with more freedom.

They have pace, power and technical ability all over the park and Peru’s need for three points could allow them to manage the game. It will allow them to counter, where they are potentially devastating, and will mean they don’t have to force the issue. Therefore, we are backing their overall quality to come through and the straight France win will appeal to punters. They arrived in Russia as one of the pre-tournament favourites and one nervy performance shouldn’t diminish that tag that was justified.

Previous matches

The clash at Central Stadium will be the second time the sides have met and the first time since 1982, when Peru secured a famous friendly victory in France.

As for their recent games, France followed up a poor 1-1 draw with USA on home soil in their final warm-up game with the 2-1 success over Australia. Whilst fan won’t be overly worried, they know they have to do much better if they are to progress to the latter rounds. Deschamps could make a few changes as stated, with Giroud leading the line and Blaise Matuidi in to provide energy and experience.

On the other side, Peru lot but will take courage from their display against Denmark but they need to be more clinical in the final third. Guerrero’s return will make a big difference in that sense but chances will be a lot harder to come by against a strong France defence.

Players to watch – Antoine Griezmann & Paolo Guerrero

Depite scoring a penalty against Australia, the Atletico forward was very poor and his attitude was questionable. His off-the-field antics, releasing a cringeworthy video about his club future whilst at the World Cup, haven’t gone down well either. He has the potential to lead this side to glory but needs to step up and deliver for his team.

For Peru, the dangerman will be Guerrero. He had a drugs ban lifted so he could play in Russia but was on the bench for the opener. He should return though and will be the man his country need to finish off the chances they will create.
