Hibernian face the blue half of the Old Firm at Easter Road on Wednesday evening, with the Edinburgh side welcoming Rangers to Leith. Neil Lennon’s Hibs side beat Rangers’ Glasgow rivals Celtic 2-0 at home at the weekend, and a repeat of that result against the Gers would give Hibs a huge boost. For their part, Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team had not won in three games in all competitions until they beat Hamilton Academical 1-0 at Ibrox at the weekend.
Hibs have a good recent record at Easter Road, having lost just one of their last 18 league games at home. They have won 12 and drawn five of those games, with their last home league defeat coming against St Johnstone in November. Rangers have not lost away at Hibs in a top tier league game since 2006.
Hibernian vs Rangers Prediction: Hibernian 1-1 Rangers
Our prediction for the outcome of this game is that it will end in a 1-1 draw. Hibs will start the game in confident fashion after their weekend win over Celtic, and may well go into an early lead. That Celtic victory might have taken its toll on the Hibs energy levels, though, and Rangers will become stronger as the match progresses. A low-scoring draw therefore looks a likely result, and we think that 1-1 might be how things turn out. It should be an exciting game, with a lively atmosphere, as it tends to be at games between these sides.
Our recommended tip: Draw, 1X2
Our featured tip for this game comes from Ladbrokes. They are offering odds of 5/2 on the 1X2 market for the game ending in a draw. As we’ve already noted, this will be a tight game between two fairly evenly-matched sides, and with the Hibees’ impressive home form they stand an excellent chance of at least taking a point off Gerrard’s side. Rangers, who have often struggled on their travels this season, will want to hold on to the top spot in the division, and will give as good as they get here.
This is the first time that these two sides will have met this season. Their last meeting came in the Scottish Premiership last season, on May 13. That game turned into a thriller for neutrals, but may have been somewhat stressful for the two teams’ coaches, as it ended 5-5. Hibs were 3-0 up after 22 minutes, but found themselves 5-3 down in the second half of the game at Easter Road. A late fight back then saw the home side level matters up at 5-5, thanks to Jamie Maclaren netting the third goal of his hat-trick in injury time.

Players to watch: Florian Kamberi & James Tavernier
Swiss striker Florian Kamberi scored Hibs’ second goal in their 2-0 home victory over Celtic at the weekend. That goal was the striker’s eighth of the season, and his second of the 2018/19 campaign against Celtic. The 23-year-old has stated in the media this week that he believes his team is ready to face Rangers, with the Scottish Premiership title race wide open currently. He is certainly a man the Gers defence need to watch.
Rangers skipper and right back James Tavernier has enjoyed a good season so far in 2018/19. He has provided seven assists for the Light Blues this season, more than any other player in the Scottish Premiership. Valued at around £8million on the transfer market, the defender might well attract some interest from English clubs in January. Gerrard, who needs funds to continue to rebuild his squad, might just be tempted to cash in on the player.
