A game between Manchester United and Juventus is always going to be a tantalising prospect, but this match has extra significance. Jose Mourinho will be desperate to prove the critics wrong and build on their impressive performance against Chelsea, whilst the sight of Cristiano Ronaldo appearing in the Juventus colours at Old Trafford will be a fascinating spectacle. Most bookies have Manchester United down as the underdogs in the Champions League clash, and it’s true that their Premier League record has been fairly uninspiring this season. In contrast, the Juventus team look like they are in rare form in the Serie A, but were recently held to a 1-1 draw by Genoa, thus depriving them of their eleventh win in a row. Juventus have won both of their Champions League matches so far, and whilst Manchester United beat Young Boys away 0-3, they were held to a dismal 0-0 home draw against Valencia.

Manchester United vs Juventus Prediction: Manchester United 1-2 Juventus

Whilst Manchester United were very unlucky not to win against Chelsea last weekend, the game against Juventus will see Jose Mourinho’s team having to take it up a level. Juventus are unbeaten in Serie A football, and whilst it took Cristiano Ronaldo a few games to find the back of the net, he scored against Genoa and looks to have found his place amongst this young and dynamic side. We think that Ronaldo will score on Tuesday night, and whilst Manchester United might be able to get one back, there’s enough talent in Massimiliano Allegri’s team to add to Jose Mourinho’s misery.

Our recommended tip: Ronaldo to win

This is going to be a very big match for Cristiano Ronaldo, and he will be desperate to score against his old club. Manchester United’s defence just hasn’t gelled in recent weeks, and as Ronaldo has moved into a more central position, he will be sure to take advantage of any lapses in concentration. Expect Manchester United to put up a spirited performance and see how Romelu Lukaku will power his way to put pressure on the Juventus defence. But on the whole we think that Juventus have the discipline and belief to win this game, and Ronaldo will be on hand to deliver that all-important winning goal.

Previous matches

As Manchester United and Juventus are two of the world’s most successful football teams, it’s no surprise to find that their head-to-head record is evenly matched at five wins and two draws each. The last time that the two teams met was back in 2003 where Manchester United won the UEFA Champions League match 3-0 with two goals from Ryan Giggs. Whilst Manchester United have had a decent record in the Champions League, Juventus have suffered from some bad luck, and they will be keen to pick up their first Champions League title since 1996.

Players to watch: Romelu Lukaku & Cristiano Ronaldo

There are few more intimidating sights in modern football than that of Romelu Lukaku charging his way towards the goal. The Belgian star has picked up just four goals in Manchester United’s 2018/19 campaign, but it seems as though the team have finally found their feet and should be able to supply the star striker with some decent goalscoring opportunities. What’s particularly noteworthy is the fact that Lukaku has expressed an interest in signing for Juventus, so this could be a very interesting game.

But at the end of the day, this game is probably going to be all about Cristiano Ronaldo. Arguably one of the best footballers of modern times, the star surprised the world when he left Real Madrid for Juventus over the summer. Ronaldo took a few games to find his feet with the Italian team, but has clocked up five goals and plenty of important assists in his nine appearances for Juventus so far.
