The United States failed to qualify for WC18, leaving their fans disappointed to miss out on the thrills and spills of football’s showpiece occasion. Today, the US team have the first opportunity to make amends, as they play against Brazil at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The visitors failed to reach the final in Russia, which was also a big disappointment, given the high expectations of the multi-tournament winners. They now travel to the US, confident that they can replicate the success recorded in previous matches against the Eagles and win their 11th match in a row.

The hosts have a couple of notable absentees, including Borussia Dortmund star Christian Pulisic, who nursing a muscle injury. Brazil will be without Gabriel Jesus and Marcelo, but otherwise, they have a solid starting formation. The South Americans have greatly improved their backline, while offensively, they remain just as dangerous. Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino will spearhead the offensive, alongside Premier League’s current top scorer, Richarlison.

USA vs Brazil Prediction: USA 1-2 Brazil

Previous matches between the teams were all high-scoring encounters, but Brazil have a much better backline today than in the previous visits to the US. Tete will aim for yet another victory on American soil, but won’t take many chances defensively. With so many talented players up front, including a couple of young strikers trying to prove their talent, Brazil are almost certain to score in New Jersey. The USA team also have a propensity for offensive football and won’t seek to primarily defend in front of their fans, which may provide scoring opportunities for them once more. After all, in the last friendly game played against France, they were able to score on the road against the reigning world champions.

Our recommended tip: Brazil and Both to Score h2>

We expect both teams to start prudently and test their opponents in the first half, but the sheer quality of the Brazilian strikers should eventually give them the upper hand. As soon as the first goal is scored, the Americans will have to come out and take more chances offensively, which should give Brazil the chance to double their lead. Later in the match, Brazil are likely to shift into a more defensive gear, as their objective isn’t to secure a lopsided victory; they seek the victory for sure, but will also wish to do so without sustaining injuries. The USA should be able to capitalize on that, take the initiative, in the final minutes and score once.

Previous matches

A total of 16 games have been played between these two teams, with Brazil emerging victorious on 14 occasions. Interestingly enough, none of the previous encounters have resulted in a draw, and we don’t expect the teams to split points tonight either. Brazil have scored three times for each goal conceded in previous fixtures, outscoring the United States by 42 to 14, and have won all of the last 10 games. They are entitled to be optimistic about extending the streak, but the Americans won’t give up without a fight, and will likely find their way to the back of the net in the final 10 minutes.

Players to watch: Aaron Long & Neymar Jr.

For the US, the match against Brazil will provide manager Sarachan with the chance to test some promising players. Aaron Long is likely to be given a chance in the starting formation after his impressive performances with the New York Red Bulls. Long is an an excellent defender and has even scored twice this season, but in this match, he’ll be pitted against some of the best strikers in the world, so it’ll be interesting to see how he copes.

Speaking of attacking football, the player that Brazil can count on tonight is Neymar, the superstar striker from PSG who will spearhead the offensive. He has scored four goals in four matches for the French champions this season, and has the speed and talent to surprise the American backline. The only concern is that he may not play for the entire 90 minutes, but the time he does spend on the pitch is sure to be noteworthy.
