Belgium – Group G – Overview and Belgium betting tips
Belgium’s ‘golden generation’ will head to Russia with very serious expectation of lifting the prestigious FIFA World Cup due to the outrageous talent that they boast in their squad. The European outfit have been regulars at the World Cup over the years but they’ve never really made a major impression at the tournament, with a fourth place finish in 1986 their best to date. Yet, they will be hopeful of going all the way this summer given their superbly talented squad, which contains many Premier League players such as Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.
Having been drawn in the Three Lions’ group, it promises to be a real test for England to see just how good they are at an early stage of the competition. Here at Open Odds we will give you the lowdown on Roberto Martinez’s team, including Belgium betting odds, their key men and everything else about the World Cup 2018 Belgium side that you would want to know.
Belgium prediction: How well will they do?
It’s not too big a statement to say we are looking at a side that could go all the way. Quite simply, they have excellent players in so many positions. Thibaut Courtois is a rock in goal whilst Vincent Kompany, Toby Alderwiereld and Jan Vertonghen are three of the better defenders in the Premier League.
Yet, further forward they are even better. Mousa Dembele is a fine all-round midfielder and could play alongside De Bruyne, probably the best midfielder in the world at the minute. They will assist the likes of Hazard and Dries Mertens who will play off Lukaku. There’s also a lot in reserve to ensure this squad really does have the lot. Clearly, that squad is a lot better than England’s so we would happily take Belgium at 4/5 with Sky Bet to finish top of Group G. As well as that, they have been drawn in the favourable side when it comes to the last 16, with the winner of Group G playing the runner up of Group H (Japan, Colombia, Senegal, Poland).
Therefore, big punters may be all over the 4/6 on offer for Belgium to reach the last eight with Ladbrokes and the 2/1 for Belgium to reach the last four with Sky Bet is also appealing. Belgium are a serious World Cup 2018 participant and could go all the way. They are around 10/1 to win the trophy which is appealing but that is not something we will recommend as they may just come up short.
Belgium to top Group G – 4/5 Sky Bet
Belgium to reach the quarter-final – 4/6 Ladbrokes
Belgium to reach the semi-final – 2/1 Sky Bet

Journey to the World Cup — Who did Belgium beat to qualify?
As you would expect, qualifying from the UEFA section was a formality from Belgium who did it in style. They won nine of their ten games, drawing the other, and scored 43 goals in the process.
The major tests came against Bosnia and Greece and whilst they needed a late goal to draw against Greece at home they were the dominant side in those games and knew they were going to qualify so we shouldn’t read too much into that. It did give Martinez the chance to try out different formations and he seemed to settle on a back three that is sure to be utilised at the World Cup, with Belgium a very attack-minded side.
Best players for Belgium: Who should you be betting on?
As we’ve mentioned, there are a huge range of quality players at Martinez’s disposal and the main problem he will have is getting them all on the pitch. The key men are all household names to English football fans so we don’t really need to tell you how good the likes of De Bruyne and Hazard are. However, the one man that you may want to bet on is Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku.
The way Belgium play is designed to make him the box player, the man to finish off the chances. And, with De Bruyne, Hazard, Mertens etc. serving you it’s going to be hard not to get chances. Therefore, we would be happy to recommend Lukaku at 2/1 to be the top Belgium scorer at the tournament with Bet Victor. As well as that, he is a very strong bet to be the top overall scorer with the weak group Belgium are in sure to play a big part.
Panama and Tunisia are in the group alongside England and Belgium play those two before the Three Lions which means Martinez will play his best team. Lukaku could get a lot of opportunities in those games and could get off to a great start. When you add in the likelihood Belgium will go a long way and the quality service he will get, we think he is a great bet at 20/1 with Sky Bet to be top scorer at the World Cup.

Who manages Belgium?
We’ve already mentioned the manager and he is a name all English fans will know – Roberto Martinez. Having managed Swansea, Wigan and Everton, fans will be aware of the attacking, possession-based style of play he encourages and it could work with this star-studded team.
He will play a back three in Russia and that will allow them more forward options which makes them a dangerous opponent to anyone. However, that tactical risk could backfire in the latter stages as Belgium meet the very best in the world. Having struggled towards the end of his time at Everton it will be very interesting to see how he copes with the latter stages of the biggest tournament of them all. A lot of pressure will be on Martinez, and assistant Thierry Henry, to deliver with this superb group of players.
Why bet on Belgium?
There’s one clear reason to bet on this World Cup 2018 Belgium team at Russia – their squad is amazing. We don’t need to list out the players again as you know just how good they are and importantly this is a squad that can cope with injuries should they arise before the tournament.
Advancing to the latter stages seems a certainty and fans should take advantage of the prices available to back Belgium to make a mark on the tournament. Whether they can go all the way remains to be seen and there are valid concerns about the manager but Belgium will be hopeful of beating their best ever finish of fourth in Russia this summer at least.
