Denmark – Group C – Overview and Denmark betting tips
Denmark left it late to secure their place as a FIFA World Cup 2018 participant but they will be hopeful of making an impact at Russia this summer. They will be delighted to be back on the biggest stage of them all having missed out on the tournament four years ago in Brazil. Despite winning a European Championships, the Danes have not fared well at World Cups and will be hoping to reach the quarter-final which would match their best ever finish.
To do so they will have to navigate their way through a tough group that includes France, Peru and Australia. Here at Open Odds we will detail everything you need to know about the World Cup team Denmark 2018 including Denmark betting odds and the key men that will drive this team on.
Denmark prediction: How well will they do?
As a third seed in the draw, Denmark knew they were likely to have a tough draw and that is what happened although they will realise it could’ve been worse. France are the top seeds and they will be hot favourites to win the group and it’s understandable given the quality they have but Denmark will be confident of nabbing second place ahead of Peru and Australia.
Whilst it won’t be easy, we think the quality of Christian Eriksen in the attacking third along with the defensive organisation of Denmark will see them through. Therefore, the odds of 11/8 on Denmark to finish second in Group C with Sky Bet appeal. The Tottenham man was crucial in helping his nation qualify for the tournament and the way the side is set up ensured they get the best out of him.
When you add in more familiar faces in the back line such as Andreas Christensen and Kasper Schmeichel then observers will realise this is a solid enough Denmark side. The exciting Pione Sisto is another who could excel against the weaker sides in the group.
However, going further in the competition looks a big ask. Should the Danes finish second their most likely opponent in the last 16 is Argentina and even though they could compete with the Argentines it’s too much to think they could beat the Lionel Messi-led side. That’s why we will also back Denmark to be eliminated in the last 16 which is 11/8 with Bet Victor.

Journey to the World Cup — Who did Denmark beat to qualify?
As briefly touched upon, Denmark left it late to qualify, needing to go through the UEFA play-offs but the ultimately did so in style. They were handed a tough qualifying draw and came second to Poland which was perhaps to be expected. With Montenegro and Romania also in the group it was a tricky draw but finishing second was to be expected.
That means they were left in the play-offs and they were handed a tie against the Republic of Ireland for a place in Russia. After a 0-0 draw in Copenhagen many feared for the Danes heading to Dublin but a Christian Eriksen masterclass, which included a hat-trick, inspired them to a 5-1 win.
They even went behind in that game which highlights the spirit and belief they have in the group. The challenge for the team in Russia will be to replicate that performance and importantly ensure Eriksen can play in a similar way.
Best players for Denmark: Who should you be betting on?
We’ve already mentioned their main man as he was so pivotal in taking his country to Russia and Eriksen will be the danger again this summer. English fans will know all about his qualities having seen him play for Spurs and he adopts a similar role for the national team. He will play as a number ten, will have little defensive responsibilities and will be given license to go and get the ball wherever he wants. It’s a tactic that clearly works though, with Eriksen scoring eight times in the ten games to get his country to second place, before the hat-trick in Dublin.
The next highest scorer for Denmark in the qualifying managed four goals. Given that, it’s impossible to ignore the 5/4 on offer with Bet Victor for Eriksen to be Denmark’s top scorer this summer. Given his importance to the team people may think he would be an outside, each-way bet to be top scorer at the World Cup but Denmark’s limited chances of progressing should put you off that.
Other players to watch include Celta Vigo’s Sisto who is an exciting player to watch and Thomas Delaney is a combative midfielder who has chipped in with goals during the campaign. Christian Eriksen to be Denmark’s top scorer – 5/4 Bet Victor

Who manages Denmark?
Åge Hareide is the national team manager and has done a fine job since taking over in 2016. He has a wealth of experience having coached, and won trophies, in various Scandinavian countries during a successful managerial career that began in 1985. English football fans may remember the name after he had spells at Manchester City and Norwich City in the 1980s.
The Norwegian has had one main task since taking over at Denmark, reaching the World Cup, and has achieved that and will now be targeting advancing from the group stage. His man-management with Eriksen was key to the Danes success, as he really got the best out of the Spurs man who had often failed to replicate his club form for his country until the past 18 months.
Why bet on Denmark?
This World Cup Denmark 2018 team aren’t going to be the most exciting you will watch but they have a clear identity and way of playing and could pick up some good results. Realistically, they will acknowledge they are playing for second in Group C and that will be the expectation but they can cause problems for France and potentially Argentina in the last 16.
They have an experienced manager who knows how to set up a team, with a lot of capable players that surround their star man in Christian Eriksen. He holds the key to how far they can go and if he is on form then who knows, maybe they can match their best ever finish of a quarter-final place in Russia this summer.
