Mexico will be playing in their seventh consecutive World Cup this summer and will be hoping to get past the final 16 which is the hurdle they’ve fallen at each of those six times. They are regulars at the World Cup and regularly appeal to neutrals with their attacking style of play and skilful attacking players and this side is no different.

But, El Tri have been handed a very difficult group with world champions Germany in there along with South Korea and Sweden. Nevertheless, Mexico will be confident of reaching the last 16 once again. Mexico prediction: How well will they do?

mexico world cup betting

Can Mexico works wonders in Group F?

A lot of how teams will do depends on the group they get and in Mexico’s case it hasn’t been too kind to them. Whilst they won’t fear Germany, the reality is that with the world champions in the group they are effectively playing for second place. Although, that does at least look very possible with South Korea and Sweden the remaining sides in the group. The European outfit will represent the toughest competition for Mexico but they should have the quality to see them off.

Sweden are a hardworking outfit that are well organised but the extra quality that El Tri have on the ball and in the final third should see them join the Germans in the last 16. The likes of Hirving Lozano, Carlos Vela and Chicharito have that extra bit of quality where it matters which could make the difference. Given that, we will recommend punters get on Mexico to finish second at 15/8 with Sky Bet.

Unfortunately though, that’s where the good news ends for us with Mexico as we think the last 16 curse will strike again. Should they finish second, which is realistically the best they can do, then they will face the winners of Group E which is almost certainly going to be Brazil. The Samba Boys are the favourites for the tournament and should easily dispatch of Mexico if they reach the knockout stage. Therefore, as well as backing them to qualify, we would recommend backing Mexico to be eliminated in the round of 16 as one is sure to follow the other. That can be taken at a price of 2/1 with Bet Victor.

Journey to the World Cup — Who did Mexico beat to qualify?

Mexico coasted through their World Cup qualifiers

Once again qualification to the World Cup from the CONCACAF section was a formality for Mexico who lost just once and even that was the final game where they had already qualified. In total they won six, drew three and lost that final game out of their ten fixtures which highlights how comfortable they are in qualifying for the tournament.

Hirving Lozano was the star man in the campaign, scoring three goals and is sure to be a key man in Russia as well. All in all, it was a stress free qualification campaign for Mexico who are too good for the majority of the sides in their section.

Best players for Mexico: Who should you be betting on?

Big things are expected of Hirving Lozano in Russia

We’ve covered a few of the quality players Mexico have and they really do have plenty of options in the final third. One man we just mentioned for his contribution in the qualifying campaign is probably the most exciting of the lot.

Lozano has enjoyed a real breakthrough season in Europe at PSV, showcasing the talent that many Mexicans knew he had. He was crucial to their Eredivisie win and will play an important role for Mexico. Whilst he is predominantly a winger, he operates in a very advanced role so could easily become the main goal threat in this side.

Therefore, the odds of 3/1 on the youngster to finish as Mexico’s top scorer in the tournament certainly appeal. He will be an exciting World Cup 2018 participant and could make a real impression at the tournament with his pace, trickery and direct style. Punters may want to look at Chicharito in that market but Mexico have a range of options up top, including Benfica’s Raul Jiminez so he could find himself subbed out on occasions which won’t help in that market.

Defensively, Mexico do have problems and they aren’t helped with their attacking nature but it should ensure they are a great watch for the neutral and that they will score goals. Hirving Lozano to be Mexico’s top scorer – 3/1 Bet Victor

Who manages Mexico?

mexico world cup betting

Juan Carlos Osorio has done a great job in managing the Mexico team

Juan Carlos Osorio is the national team manager and has held that role since 2015 and has done a very good job on the whole. Tactically flexible, Mexico are a hard team to play against because of the way the players can adapt to play in different formations and a lot of credit for that must go to the manager. He looks to set his sides out to dominate the ball and that fits in with the players Mexico have got.

This will be his first World Cup and first major test as Mexico manager and the minimum expectation will be to reach the last 16. The Colombian brings a wealth of experience to the job having worked in Mexico, America, Brazil and his home country in the past but there’s no doubt that this is his biggest test yet.

Why bet on Mexico?

Can Mexico finally reach the World Cup quarter finals this summer?

If you are looking for a second team this World Cup then there’s every chance it could be Mexico. They play with a fearlessness, a real intent and want to score goals and play the right way which is why they appeal to the neutrals. It is how they’ve been over the years and this World Cup 2018 Mexico team is no different at all. That attacking nature should see them overcome sides with inferior ability and that is why they are a good bet to qualify from a tough Group F.

However, issues arise when they try and go toe-to-toe with the elite countries and the way of the draw means Mexico can’t avoid them. With Germany in their group, second place looks their best bet, and that will lead to Brazil. Mexico will be a good watch but a seventh successive last 16 exit seems inevitable.
