Having scored in terrific style last time out, Pemberley is a strong fancy to make light of a rise in the weights and follow-up in the 3m 2f handicap hurdle at Warwick on Tuesday (14:35).
This Emma Lavelle trained six-year-old shaped with promise in a couple of bumpers before showing ability in four starts over hurdles last season last season.
He ran well on debut over the obstacles when a tenderly handled 6 1/4 lengths fifth of 11 to MassiniMan at Hereford and also shaped better than the 31 lengths he was eventually beaten when fourth of 12 to Brandon Castle at Plumpton.
Pemberley was allotted an opening handicap mark of 99 on the back of those efforts. He ran a blinder off it on his final start of the campaign when staying on from off the pace to go down by just a neck to Anzac Magic at Wincanton. A 5lb rise for that looked fair.
Although well-beaten off a revised rating of 104 at Exeter on seasonal reappearance last month when a 22 length ninth of 14 to Heavey, Pemberley was held-up well off the pace and made headway five out before weakening and was considerately handled.
More to come from lightly-raced Pemberley
He looked badly in need of that outing and duly came on a ton for it when bolting up at Hereford four weeks ago. After tracking the leaders travelling ominously well, Pemebrley was produced to throw down a challenge two from home by promising claimer Ben Jones.
This son of Darsi only had to be driven out under a hands and heels ride on the run-in to readily account for Ventura Dragon by two lengths. Pemberley won with his ears pricked, suggesting that there was stacks of petrol left in the locker.
The handicapper has reacted by putting him up 9lb to a mark of 113, but such was the authority with which he scored it may not be enough to stop him going in again. Pemberley remains open to further progress after just six starts and is clearly going the right way.
He also once again has the services of Jones in the saddle who takes off a handy 5lb with his claim, so looks to have lots going for him and well worth a wager at the odds on offer.
Bet of the Day: 4/1 with Unibet, Pemberley to win the 3m 2f handicap hurdle at Warwick.
