We’ve seen how other Premier League representatives have fared in the UEFA Champions League last 16 first legs, and now it’s the turn of English champions Manchester City.
They travel to Gelsenkirchen club Schalke of the Bundesliga on Wednesday (kick-off: 20:00 GMT) with William Hill offering a couple of enhanced price specials.
A boosted 9/2 bet is available on both teams to score in the first half. This has happened in four of hosts Schalke’s last eight games.
Both teams have hit the target before half time on 10 occasions in games involving Man City this season. That suggests we could again be in for early goals here.
Can Sane come back to haunt Schalke?
The home team have a famous football academy that has produced the likes of Julian Draxler, Benedikt Howedes, Thilo Kehrer, Max Meyer, Manuel Neuer and Mesut Ozil in recent years.
This game is the first occasion than another Schalke graduate Leroy Sane returns to his old stomping ground. He features alongside Man City star striker Sergio Aguero in a 4/1 enhanced scorer double.
When Pep Guardiola’s team were last in Champions League action, Germany winger Sane proved their match winner bagging a brace against another Bundesliga club in Hoffenheim.
Sane returns to Schalke having scored in his last game and will surely want to catch the manager’s eye again with the EFL Cup final at Wembley against Chelsea coming up next.
Aguero also part of sweet scorer double
Argentina frontman Aguero, meanwhile, has 10 goals in nine matches across all competitions in 2019 so far. He heads to Germany off the back of hitting hat-tricks in two of his last three games.
Aguero has also struck against Schalke in the Champions League before. That came for former club Atletico Madrid in the third qualifying round back in 2008 – a game in which he also made two assists.
This enhanced scorer double featuring Aguero and Sane, and the both teams to score in the first half boosted bet are well worth considering.
Bet of the Day: William Hill enhanced specials; Schalke and Man City to both score in the first half at 9/2, and Aguero and Sane anytime scorer double at 4/1.
